Signee 101: Get to know 4-star South Carolina T Dylan Wonnum

February 07, 2018

Entering National Signing Day, 4-star tackle Dylan Wonnum was the only South Carolina commitment expected to sign with the Gamecocks’ 2018 class.

A right tackle by trade at Tucker (Ga.) High School, the 6-foot-5, 300-pound prospect joins his older brother, D.J., who led the Gamecocks in sacks as a sophomore last season.

The younger Wonnum was officially added to South Carolina’s signing class just after 7 a.m. Wednesday.

  1. 247Sports composite ranking: Wonnum is the No. 12 offensive tackle in the Class of 2018. Nationally, he’s No. 148 overall, which makes him South Carolina’s second-highest ranked signee. High School teammate Josh Vann, a 4-star wide receiver, is the top member of the Gamecocks’ class.
  2. Hometown: Tucker, Ga.
  3. School: Tucker
  4. Offers: There were 18, according to his 247Sports profile, but Auburn, LSU and Tennessee were the primary contenders.
  5. Commitment: Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018
Where he fits at South Carolina: Zack Bailey, Blake Camper and Malik Young have all played right tackle for the Gamecocks, so immediate playing time may not be in the cards for Wonnum, assuming that’s his position. However, 2018 is the senior season for each of the three returning players, so Wonnum would appear to have a shot to win a starting job as early as 2019.
