John Simpson
Heavyweight football prospect OL John Simpson of Fort Dorchester will draw quite the crowd of football coaches tonight as he wrestles for the Patriots for the first time this season. Most of the USC staff will be in attendance tonight though coach Steve LaPrad said he does not believe head coach Will Muschamp will be on hand because of another prospect he has to see.
“Coach Elliott was here early and I think Coach Bentley was running around and I think all of them are coming to the wrestling match tonight,” LaPrad said. “I don’t know if Coach Muschamp is coming or not. I think he might have flown somewhere else. Most of them are coming. And I think Coach Swinney is coming tomorrow. Florida was all here yesterday. The head man was here. The O-Line coach and Coach Rumph were here yesterday.”
Simpson has taken official visits to LSU, Florida and Clemson. He was planning to visit Alabama this weekend but LaPrad said that’s been scratched. And USC has been hoping to get him in as well.
“I don’t think he’s going anywhere this weekend, I think he canceled the Alabama thing,” he said. “I know LSU is still coming here and there. I don’t know what he’s really down to. He hasn’t said no (to a USC visit) but he hasn’t said yes either. I’m sure that’s why they’re here tonight so if they are going to get a visit I’m sure it will be after tonight.”
Simpson is planning to announce a decision on Signing Day.
