South Carolina 2018 recruiting: Where Gamecocks stand with non-committed players

After sharing on Tuesday which 2018 prospects would have Crystal Ball picks for South Carolina, it’s time to dive into which ones are borderline, truly up in the air or worse.
Close to South Carolina?
The first group includes 2018 prospects who could be close to committing but for whom we’re not quite comfortable enough to make a prediction — even though South Carolina’s been mentioned as a favorite.
Horn, who has eschewed plans to announce in mid-July, now has a list of finalists of South Carolina, Alabama and now Tennessee. A decision could be reached before the start of his senior season.
Who the heck really knows?
One is the ultimate wild-card. Another could be close to committing to South Carolina, but it’s a tough read. The third changes his mind almost daily. Then there are the unknowns.
Gwyn appears to be down to the Gamecocks and two other schools: Duke and N.C. State. If you’re the type who loves offensive linemen who avoid the spotlight, this is your man. Making contact with Gwyn is no easy feat.
Earlier this year, Hollifield made it clear that his favorite school can change at a moment’s notice, though North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia Tech have long been considered his mostly likely options. Florida State and Stanford are firmly in the mix, too. The Army All-American Bowl has been targeted as an announcement date.
McMillan includes South Carolina in his top 5 and he’s looking to make a commitment before the start of his senior season at Booker T. Washington High School.
Mitchell also recently included South Carolina in a top 5 with Duke, Georgia, Tennessee and Virginia Tech.
Probably not South Carolina
For some reason or another — some reasons more tangible than others — it just feels as if these guys will not end up at South Carolina (even though you’ll probably still read about them in this space):
