South Carolina was included in Tuesday night’s top 8 release by 2018 3-star safety Lance Robinson. Arizona, Kansas, Kansas State and Washington State are the other Power 5 conference schools that made the cut.
The Gamecocks could have Robinson for a visit this summer.
“South Carolina was my first SEC offer and their program is headed in the right direction,” he said. “And the way they want to use me in the defense, I can possibly do big things if I decide to commit to them.”
Robinson is an intriguing prospect. Measured at 5-foot-10, 175 pounds earlier this year at The Opening Regional in New Orleans, he might not be imposing. But skip ahead to 1:30 on his junior highlights and enjoy the show.
Find a 2018 prospect who is, pound for pound, a harder hitter. If there is one, it would make for an interesting comparison.
Athletically, Robinson checks out. He tested well, running 4.62 seconds in the 40-yard dash and 4.12 in the shuttle. His vertical jump was more than 39 inches and his power ball throw was 36 feet. The 109.77 SPARQ rating was ninth-best at the event.
Robinson, who attends De La Salle High School in New Orleans, is the No. 77 safety in the 247Sports composite rankings for the 2018 recruiting class.

Three-star defensive end Azeez Ojulari recently told Phil Kornblut that he was planning to narrow his list at the end of the summer.
South Carolina is among the handful of schools still in pursuit of Ojulari, a 6-foot-4, 224-pound prospect from Marietta (Ga.) High School.
“I like South Carolina,” he said. “[Gamecocks coach Will Muschamp] said I would be playing the Buck position. Coach Muschamp coached Dante Fowler. I think they are going to be good. They are trying to find the guys that will have an early impact. I like that. I’m trying to play early, too. They said they are rebuilding and making a move.”
Alabama, Clemson, Florida and Tennessee are also in the mix for Ojulari, the No. 26 weak-side defensive end in the Class of 2018.
