South Carolina coach to visit Georgia commitment Devonte Wyatt

Dec. 18, 2017

Checking in on Wyatt

On Wednesday, South Carolina defensive line coach Lance Thompson will meet with Georgia defensive tackle commitment Devonte Wyatt.
The Gamecocks hosted their one-time commitment for an official visit this past weekend.

“It was fun,” he told SEC Country on Sunday. “I had fun up there. It really still feels like home when I came back.”

Ahead of an official visit to Georgia this weekend, Florida coach Jim McElwain was in Decatur, Ga., on Tuesday to meet with Wyatt.
Wyatt, a 3-star from Towers High School, is expected to announce his decision on signing day. The SEC East trio of Florida, Georgia and South Carolina are the finalists.

More SEC East officials

According to Phil Kornblut, 3-star defensive end Aaron Sterling will take official visits to Georgia and Tennessee before he heads to South Carolina.

Georgia is set to have Sterling on campus Thursday and Friday. Tennessee will then host him on Saturday and Sunday. His visit to South Carolina is set for the weekend of Saturday, Jan. 28.

The former Alabama commitment visited N.C. State last weekend.

South Carolina is still believed to be the favorite for Sterling, who’s the No. 17-ranked strong-side defensive end in the Class of 2017.

Action continues for Bryan

Three-star running back Kyshaun Bryan, who remains listed as a South Carolina commitment, continues to entertain other suitors as the end of January approaches.

Pittsburgh offered on Sunday, just a couple of days after Iowa. On Tuesday night, Bryan posted a picture with Iowa linebackers coach Seth Wallace.

Bryan was previously scheduled to take an official visit to Oregon State this weekend, but that’s been changed. He’ll visit Pittsburgh this weekend instead.

According to Bryan’s 247Sports profile, Iowa is scheduled to host him the following weekend. Pittsburgh, however, is now listed as the Crystal Ball favorite to land him.

That trend was kick-started by 247Sports National Recruiting Insider Ryan Bartow, who first submitted a Crystal Ball pick for Oregon State, after the Beavers offered earlier this month.

Either way, it’s been apparent for some time that Bryan was not going to sign with South Carolina.

The interview in the above link — the one Bryan granted to pittsburghsportsnow.com, is the first word directly from him in quite some time.

Here’s a snippet from the No. 32-ranked running back in the Class of 2017:

“My parents and I have been talking about it, plus my coaches, and we’re trying to figure out my plan right now,” he said. “Pitt is a priority to me and my family. Their coaches have been real good with me and they seem to really like me.”

4.4-something

We already knew Xavier Thomas, the 5-star 2018 defensive end, was fast. Apparently, he’s really fast.

Really, really fast.

South Carolina is a finalist for Thomas along with Clemson. Apparently, the door has been left open for Florida State, his first offer.
