South Carolina football coaches wish Channing Tindall luck before season opener

FORT MILL, S.C. – Before the first game of his senior season, 4-star linebacker Channing Tindall heard from South Carolina football coach Will Muschamp and linebackers coach Coleman Hutzler.
The Gamecocks staff is in contact with the country’s No. 5 outside linebacker “every day.” Their words before Friday night’s game didn’t fall on deaf ears.
“Get your team ready, step up and win the game,” Tindall said of their message. “That’s exactly what we did. I’m proud of my boys.”
Spring Valley rolled past Fort Mill, 41-7.
The No. 5 outside linebacker in the Class of 2018 had 5 tackles, according to the unofficial count by SEC Country.
“Our defensive line really stepped up,” Tindall said. “I was really proud of them. I was [constantly] trying to get up to the ball and before I got up to the ball, they already made the sack or tackle.”
Tindall, who’s also ranked by the 247Sports composite as the No. 3 prospect from the state of South Carolina, tipped his cap to two defensive mates, both of whom are also seniors: KeAndre Jones and C.J. Barnes, who “probably had the most tackles.”
But Tindall certainly was effective. Now, in his second season at linebacker, the 6-foot-2, 213-pound prospect looked particularly comfortable in coverage, taking away a lot of underneath routes and potential check downs.
“I’ve been working on that a lot,” Tindall said. “That’s one thing — I wasn’t uncomfortable with it, moving from d-end to linebacker, but now that’s what I really focus on, trying to learn how to cover.
“Now, I feel like I’m pretty good at it.”
Several SEC schools, including Florida, Georgia and South Carolina tend to agree. After his game on Friday night, Tindall said he wants to visit all three schools before announcing a commitment before the end of next month.
Tindall and Richard Jibunor, a 4-star athlete from Athens, Ga., have talked about coordinating a trip to Florida, but they haven’t picked out a game yet. No other visit arrangements have been made by Tindall, who’s also considering Auburn and Florida State.
