On Sunday afternoon, South Carolina landed a commitment from 2018 3 star offensive lineman LaMarius Benson 6'3" 305lbs. Benson, a 3-star from Eastside High School in Covington, Ga., committed to South Carolina over offers from Maryland and Georgia Tech, among others.

“I just think that was a good fit for me, the best for me, as a player and a student-athlete,” Benson said. Jumping on board with South Carolina is something he’s been thinking about since the Gamecocks offered last month for junior day.
“The school, I know that’s one (reason why), the coaching staff and what I’m going to study in, they have that, so that’s a big factor,” Benson said. South Carolina offensive line coach Eric Wolford likes Benson as a guard.
“I just like him, because when I first met him, he was just like, let’s do it. … He was trying to do everything he could do, to get me to commit,” Benson said. “So I had been thinking about it the last couple of weeks, so he was just one of those coaches that just made me think.
“Let’s get it moving. Let’s get this train going.”
With his pledge, South Carolina has two 2018 commitments. Benson (6-2, 300) joins 3-star wide receiver Darius Rush (Kingstree, S.C.).
