South Carolina lands DB Jaylan Foster, Big South Freshman of the Year

Dec. 25, 2016

On Christmas Day, Gardner-Webb cornerback Jaylan Foster announced on Twitter that he would transfer to South Carolina.

The 6-foot, 190-pound rising sophomore had 45 tackles and 5 sacks during his first season of college ball. He was also tied for first in the Big South with his seven takeaways, to go along with 14 passes defended. He led the FCS with 185 defensive return yards, and returned an interception and a fumble for touchdowns.

Originally from Byrnes High School in Duncan, S.C., Foster was a 2-star prospect, according to the 247Sports composite. Charleston Southern, Coastal Carolina, Eastern Michigan and Liberty also offered. He was the No. 49-ranked prospect from the state of South Carolina.

After taking a redshirt this fall, Foster will have three season of eligibility to play, beginning in 2018.

Byrnes is the same high school that running backs coach Bobby Bentley coached at for several years.
