South Carolina offers 4-star 2019 QB from Connecticut 2018
Feb. 17, 2018
On Saturday morning, 4-star 2019 quarterback Taisun Phommachanh announced that he picked up an offer from South Carolina.
Though unconfirmed, he’s believed to be the first 2019 quarterback to land an offer from the Gamecocks since Dan Werner took over as the position coach.
Phommachanh (6-4, 210) is ranked by the 247Sports composite as the No. 8 dual-threat quarterback in the Class of 2019. He’s top among prospects from the state of Connecticut.
As a junior at Avon Old Farms School, he passed for 2,253 yards with 25 touchdowns and 1 interception. He also rushed for 633 yards and 17 scores.
Florida State, Kentucky, Michigan, Penn State and TCU have also offered.
Before Werner took over, former South Carolina offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Kurt Roper offered just a handful of 2019 quarterbacks, including 4-star Sam Howell (Monroe, N.C.) and 3-star Garrett Shrader (Charlotte, N.C.).
Check out Phommachanh’s highlights below, to get a glimpse of what led Werner to decide to pull the trigger on an offer.
