South Carolina recruiting: Coveted OT delays decision, Gamecocks target another dual-sport athlete

The first few days of the NCAA recruiting calendar’s dead period didn’t lack for storylines.
When the week began, 4-star OT T.J. Moore was set to commit to either South Carolina, Tennessee or North Carolina State. He pushed back the timeline from Monday to indefinitely.
Moore, who’s from Mallard Creek High School (Charlotte, N.C.) covets an offer from Alabama, so exactly how things shake up could be determined by the word from Tuscaloosa.
The Gamecocks hosted him for a visit since he was on campus for the cookout in April. Because of the current dead period, prospects aren’t allowed to make campus visits until July 11.
South Carolina, along with several other schools around the Southeast, will utilize the fourth weekend in July as a means to lure recruits back to visit. Starting that Monday, July 18, another round of Will Muschamp Football Camps will be back in session.
The week in Columbia will culminate with an event on Saturday. Among the scheduled visitors: 3-star S Zay Brown (Athens, Ga.).
No doubt the South Carolina staff will try to convince Moore and 4-star ATH OrTre Smith (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) to join him. On Wednesday, Smith released a top 5, which included South Carolina, Clemson, Georgia, North Carolina and Florida.
He visited the Carolinas schools and Georgia in June.
Navaughn Donaldson was one of the highest-rated offensive linemen who visited last month during Muschamp Camp. A 4-star prospect from Miami-Central High School, Donaldson has been committed to the Hurricanes since last July.
Donaldson, who’s the No. 16 ranked offensive tackle in the class of 2017, was joined by several of his teammates in Columbia on June 13.
“The visit was great and I love the campus,” he said. “It’s a place I can see myself at.”
Donaldson didn’t reply when asked about a return visit to South Carolina.
Six days before his stop in Columbia, 2018 Blythewood (S.C.) ATH Jordyn Adams made the short trip back down, to spend some time with the Gamecocks coaches. His dad is former defensive line coach Deke Adams, who’s now an assistant at East Carolina.
In October, South Carolina baseball coach Chad Holbrook offered the 6-foot-2, 175-pound prospect. Like South Carolina, ECU and Liberty have also offered in both sports. North Carolina, Maryland and Southern Miss have football offers on the table. Clemson is expressing interest in both sports, too.
Whether it’s football or baseball, or both, his plans for the next level are to be determined.
“It will be more choosing the school that fits me academic-wise and I really like, more than (just) choosing a sport,” Adams said.
