There were plenty of ups and downs for South Carolina’s 2017 signing class, which began to take shape when Steve Spurrier was head coach.

From commitments to de-commitments to re-commitments, there was a little bit of everything for Gamecocks fans to read about, as it related to the 2017 haul.

Below is a timeline of events that helped shape South Carolina, two days beforeNational Signing Day:

Jan. 23, 2015

Dennis Daley commits to South Carolina as a sign-and-place prospect before going on to enroll at Georgia Military College in Milledgeville, Ga.

June 13, 2015

Will Register (Chapin, S.C.) commits to Spurrier, before what would be his final season as the Gamecocks head coach.

Oct. 13, 2015

Spurrier announces resignation.

Dec. 7, 2015

Will Muschamp is hired as the next full-time head coach.

Dec. 23, 2015

Defensive lineman Javon Kinlaw (Goose Creek, S.C.) commits to South Carolina, but will leave high school early, to begin an accelerated junior college track at Jones County in Mississippi.

March 1, 2016

Junior college wide receiver Stephen Guidry (Morganza, La.) becomes first prospect to commit to Muschamp’s staff at South Carolina.

March 19, 2016

Three-star offensive lineman Summie Carlay (Laurens, S.C.) commits.

March 24, 2016

Four-star quarterback Jake Bentley (Opelika, Ala.) commits.

April 2, 2016

Three-star offensive tackle Eric Douglas (Charlotte, N.C.) and 3-star defensive end Tyreek Johnson (Sumter, S.C.) commit.

April 6, 2016

Bentley announces that he will reclassify and graduate early from high school so he can enroll at South Carolina in time for the 2016 season.

April 21, 2016

Three-star quarterback Jay Urich (Piedmont, S.C.) is offered.

April 29, 2016

Guidry de-commits.

May 27, 2016

Urich commits.

June 8, 2016

South Carolina lands commitments from 3-star defensive lineman Devonte Wyatt and 3-star outside linebacker Davonne Bowen.

June 11, 2016

South Carolina lands two commitments: 4-star WR Shi Smith (Union, S.C.) and 3-star junior college outside linebacker Eldridge Thompson (Memphis, Tenn.).

June 17, 2016

Three-star cornerbacks Tavyn Jackson (Tallahassee, Fla.) and Damarri Mathis (Lakeland, Fla.) commit.

June 18, 2016

Three-star safety Jaylin Dickerson (Southern Pines, N.C.) commits.

July 23, 2016

Three-star safety Zay Brown (Athens, Ga.) finalizes his commitment.

Aug. 1, 2016

Four-star offensive lineman T.J. Moore (Charlotte, N.C.) makes surprising move and commits to South Carolina, joining Douglas, his teammate at Mallard Creek High School.

Aug. 8, 2016

Wyatt flips commitment from South Carolina to Georgia.

Aug. 16, 2016

Four-star safety Hamsah Nasirildeen (Concord, N.C.) commits to South Carolina over Florida State.

Aug. 19, 2016

Four-star defensive end M.J. Webb (Madison, Ga.) commits to South Carolina over Auburn, Tennessee and Ole Miss.

Aug. 27, 2016

Four-star cornerback Jamyest Williams (Loganville, Ga.) commits to South Carolina over Georgia.

Sept. 11, 2016

Four-star wide receiver OrTre Smith (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) commits to South Carolina over Clemson.

Oct. 9, 2016

Moore de-commits.

Nov. 4, 2016

Three-star wide receiver Chad Terrell (Dallas, Ga.) announces his commitment.

Nov. 14, 2016

Kinlaw de-commits.

Nov. 19, 2016

Moore unofficially visits with Douglas for the Western Carolina game.

Nov. 28, 2016

Mathis de-commits.

Dec. 14, 2016

On the first day of the junior college signing period, South Carolina lands signatures from defensive backs Keisean Nixon and Kaleb Chalmers, who began his college career at Clemson.

Dec. 25, 2016

Moore commits to Florida.

Jan. 9, 2017

Five of South Carolina’s commitments enrolled for the first day of class: OL Summie Carlay, CB Kaleb Chalmers, S Jaylin Dickerson, WR OrTre Smith, DE M.J. Webb.

Jan. 13, 2017

Wyatt begins official visit to South Carolina.

Jan. 15, 2017

Three-star offensive tackle Jordan Rhodes commits to South Carolina over Mississippi State and Missouri.

Jan. 22, 2017

Nasirildeen flips commitment from South Carolina to Florida State.

Jan. 29, 2017

Kinlaw tells reporters he’s 100 percent with South Carolina, but won’t make it official until announcing his commitment the day before signing day.
