South Carolina targeting several top dual-threat QBs for next year’s class
Feb. 20, 2017
The returning roster
The following assumes everyone plays in 2017 and there is no attrition to the NFL or transfer departures.
Michael Scarnecchia, redshirt senior
Jake Bentley, junior
Brandon McIlwain, junior
Jay Urich, sophomore
At quarterback, when there’s a starter who’s entrenched himself as the man, there’s always the risk of an early exit or two. From this perspective, it would seem that South Carolina is in position to sign two quarterbacks in the 2018 cycle
Once classified as a North Carolina commitment, James Foster of Lanier High School in Montgomery, Ala., lists several notable offers, including Tennessee, Louisville and Mississippi State. The No. 17-ranked dual-threat quarterback in the country is considering a return to South Carolina this weekend for junior day.
Kentucky quarterback commitment Jarren Williams continues to look at other options but maintains he’s firm with his pledge to the Wildcats. Williams is the No. 18 dual-threat quarterback in 2018.
One spot ahead of Foster in the 2018 rankings is Joe Milton, a 6-foot-5, 222-pound prospect from Olympic High School in Orlando, Fla., who turned heads at The Opening regional in Orlando on Sunday. South Carolina offered in May, just before he visited for camp. He plans to return to Columbia this summer.
Four-star Dakereon Joyner, the No. 7-ranked dual-threat quarterback in 2018, visited NC State over the weekend. South Carolina is set to have him back on campus this weekend for junior day. He’ll announce his decision on Father’s Day. Georgia, Louisville and Virginia Tech are also the finalists.
