South Carolina vs Mizzou Game Thread Game 3

BOTTOM 6 - Everett with a leadoff double down the right field line. He's the nine-hole hitter and just had his fourth hit of the day. Leadoff hitter Keeton grounds back to Westy. He fails to do his job and should be scolded upon return to the dugout. Pearson grounds back to the mound. What are these dudes doing? Don't they want the fourth run in? Ha. ... Two outs. Ground ball to Vergason. He doesn't field it cleanly but gathers and makes the play. Missouri leads 3-0.

Yeesh. 3-0 start, Rosenberg strikes out. Gamecocks looking more and more like, "We won the series. Let's go home."

Sullivan gives a spark with a two-out single, Carson wildly strikes out. USC has no outfielders to replace him with, if you were wondering.

TOP 7 - Bright hits a hard shot to Everett's right at short. He's been the player of the day here for the Tigers. Makes a backhanded play and strong throw to get Bright by a half step. Rosenberg goes down swinging on what should have been ball four. Sullivan drops a single to left center to give South Carolina a base runner. Carson goes down swinging to end the inning. Missouri up 3-0.

3-0 Tigers, B7. Kelly starts with his third hit of the day, over short. Munson will face Patrick Sullivan, who is replacing Westy.

Not a bad outing for Westy. 4 2-3 IP, 5H, 0R, 2HBP, 3K. Worked out of a lot of trouble.

Munson goes for the sand wedge, digs and pops it to Schrock, one out. Man on for Ivory. He hits one too deep for Pankake, single.

Two on, one out for Lester. Sullivan loses him on a full count, bases loaded for Segovia. Bouncer, too slow for a DP, run scores.

Got the out at second, too slow for first. 4-0 Tigers, corners with two outs. Everett up. Sully's first pitch hits him on the forearm

Loaded for Keeton. Wynkoop warming. Grounder to Pankake, flip to second, inning over. Missouri leads 4-0, T8

BOTTOM 7 - Adam Westmoreland gives up a leadoff single and his day is done. Munson reaches out and hits a pop fly to Schrock at short, who makes the catch on the infield grass. A single off of Sully puts two on with one out for Josh Lester. He walks to load the bases. Ground ball to Pankake's right. He fields and throws to second for a force out. No shot at two. Runner comes in. Charged to Westy. Runners at the corners with two down. Sullivan hits Everett, who is on base for the fiffth time today. Keeton grounds into a fielders choice to end the inning. Missouri leads 4-0

Verg's grounder typical of the day. Scalded, right to a fielder. Two quickly down.

USC down 1-2-3. 4-0 Tigers, B8, USC down to its final three outs

TOP 8 - Schrock bounces out to the first baseman unassisted. Make that two in a row. Vergason hit a hard shot to Lester at first. Very nice play by him. South Carolina just can't get any base runners. Pearson makes a running catch in center. He hasn't been very good defensively. Made that a lot tougher than it should have been. Pankake was the final out of the inning. Missouri leads 4-0.

Two outs for Mizzou as the wind takes a homer away from Opel. Kelly, with three hits today, stands in.

BOTTOM 8 - Sullivan falls behind 3-0 but then gets Pearson to fly out to left. One down. Shon Carson looks good tracking a fly ball to right centerfield. That ball was hit really well. That ball, like Dantzler's a couple innings back, would have been out if the wind hadn't been blowing like it is. Dylan Kelly tries to drag a bunt up the first base line. Dantzler fields and steps on the bag for the final out. Last chances for the Gamecocks. Missouri leads 4-0.

USC down to its last three outs. 4-0 Tigers, T9.

Dantzler grounds to second. Greiner strikes out

All up to pinch-hitter Britt. This would be USC's first shutout of the season.

All up to pinch-hitter Britt. This would be USC's first shutout of the season. He singles to right.
