South Carolina weekend recruiting preview

June 24, 2016

After an aggressive start to the month of June, Will Muschamp will take his foot off the gas, relatively speaking.

No need to worry, Gamecocks fans, it’s not a decision he reached on his own. NCAA rules require the South Carolina head coach to ease up on the recruiting trail. He’s not the only one.

After Sunday, June 26, the NCAA recruiting calendar flips from a quiet period to a dead period.

“During a dead period a college coach may not have face-to-face contact with college-bound student-athletes or their parents, and may not watch student-athletes compete or visit their high schools. Coaches may write and telephone student-athletes or their parents during a dead period.”

The dead period runs June 27-July 10. On July 11, the quiet period goes back into effect. But that doesn’t mean there won’t be any storylines worth tracking.

If the news doesn’t break on Friday, South Carolina, Tennessee and NC State fans will learn on Monday where 4-star OT T.J. Moore has committed. The No. 29 offensive tackle in the class of 2017 attends Mallard Creek High School (Charlotte, N.C.) with South Carolina commitment Eric Douglas.

Beyond that, there shouldn’t be much movement this weekend. As the quiet period winds down, word of a visitor to South Carolina could pop up over the next 24-48 hours, but several of the Gamecocks coaches are already on vacation.

Plus, several of the top 2017 and 2018 targets stopped through Columbia earlier this month during the Will Muschamp Football Camp.
