South Florida commitments return for camp

June 18, 2018

In the area

Three-star linebacker Jahmar Brown, a 2019 commit from St. Thomas Aquinas High School (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), visited the Gamecocks while seeing an aunt, who lives in Greenville, S.C.

“It was a great visit and just getting back home felt really good,” Brown said.

Linebackers coach Coleman Hutzler put Brown (6-1, 200) through the paces during a workout.

“He’s cool and he’s about his business, not too complex and not too sweet. He’s a well-balanced coach,” Brown said.

What was the message from Muschamp?

“Just saying that he’s happy to have me on board and that he wants to keep on building, because we have something special on the way,” Brown said.

An official visit to South Carolina could be made as early as the weekend of the Georgia game in September. If not then, Brown will take it in December.

Limited participant

Four-star tackle Issiah Walker, a 2020 commit from Norland High School (Miami), visited the Gamecocks a few days after he visited and was offered by UCF.

“It went very well. I loved it actually,” Walker said of his trip to South Carolina.

Like Brown, Walker arrived in Columbia on Friday. Before Walker returned home on Saturday, he worked out with offensive line coach Eric Wolford.

“It was really good. I pulled my hamstring, so I couldn’t really do everything with Coach Wolf,” Walker said. “He just showed me what we do at South Carolina, stuff like that.”

Walker added, “He’s a good coach. He knows what he’s doing.”

Earlier this week, Walker (6-4, 260) attended camp at Florida and was re-offered by the Gators’ new coaching staff.
