3 star DB Nick McCloud (6-2 166) of South Pointe has the chance to be among the top 2016 recruits in South Carolina. He has an offer from Appalachian State and is getting interest from USC, Auburn and Northwestern. He was at USC’s last home game with South Alabama and was in Columbia for several games this season. The Gamecocks have made a habit of pulling players out of Rock Hill and that would help them with McCloud if they decide to seriously pursue him.

“I’m close to the former Gamecocks from Rock Hill,” McCloud said. “They (USC) told me to have a good season and have a good showing on my film. That’s all they are waiting on. They said I’ve made great progress and I’m coachable. They are just waiting to see my junior film.”

McCloud is a cornerback and he’s heard positive reviews from Gamecock secondary coach Grady Brown.

“He likes how long I am and how gifted I am in playing press coverage,” he said. “And how hard I work.”

McCloud has also been to Auburn and Appalachian State this season and likes both, but the strongest feeling would be for USC.

“I like that it’s close to home and I know the coaches and a lot of the players that played there,” McCloud said. “It’s a nice place to play and staying in the state would be good for me.”

Though he’s being recruited for corner, McCloud has played mostly receiver this season.
