Back at The UFour-star CB Trajan Bandy was back on campus at Miami Thursday to watch the Hurricanes practice. Bandy goes to high school at Columbus, which sits less than six miles from the Miami campus.
Two of Bandy’s teammates are committed to the Hurricanes: 2017 4-star cornerback Christopher Henderson and 2018 4-star cornerback Josh Jobe. Both accompanied Bandy for Thursday’s visit.
South Carolina made quite an impression last month while he was on campus for the cookout.
Skinny: Since he’s right in the backyard, Bandy has taken countless visits to The U. This will be an uphill battle for South Carolina. The way things stand right now, theGamecocks provide the stiffest competition to the Hurricanes.
New 2017 hoops offerHead coach Frank Martin and associate head coach Matt Figger offered 2017 guard JA Morant while he was on campus Thursday night.
An unranked prospect from Crestwood High School in Sumter, S.C., Morant entered the visit with offers from several mid-major programs, including Murray State, UTEP, Wofford, S.C. State and High Point.
“They were just telling me about how they like how I play and that I’m a good fit for their organization. It just ended with the offer,” Morant said of his visit with the Gamecocks.
He added, “It’s an honor. It’s my first high-major offer.”
Even though Morant’s other offers are from the Southern Conference and Big South, he’s not quite ready to jump on his first offer from the SEC. Not yet.
“It’s my hometown, so I’m a fan,” Morant said.
The Gamecocks have that working in their favor, too.
“Right now, I’m just going to see what else comes available and just make my decision in November, somewhere around there,” Morant said.
East Carolina had him on campus earlier this summer. He also visited South Carolina in June.
An official visit itinerary will be arranged next month.
“I just want to let my parents, my high school and AAU coach help make the decision with me, decide which is the best fit for me,” Durant said.
As a junior at Crestwood, he averaged 27 points per game, 8 assists and 8 rebounds.
Visiting from New York
According to a Friday morning report from Phil Kornblut, Romello Martin will visit South Carolina next weekend. The 4-star defensive tackle from Lincoln High School in Brooklyn is the No. 27 ranked player at his position for the class of 2017.
Defensive line coach Lance Thompson has been in contact with No. 2 player from the state of New York.
“(Thompson) is telling me they need some guys up front and I’m one of those guys that they need,” Martin said. “I want to see what the campus is like and what they have to offer. I’m excited about it to see what they are like.”
He recently released a top 10.
