SpursUp Surveillance: Elite OL target T.J. Moore sets a date, another in-state prospect earns an early offer

One last deadline for 4-star offensive linemanOver the last several weeks, T.J. Moore had a couple of different decision dates scheduled. It would appear that he’s settled on Aug. 1.
The 4-star offensive tackle from Mallard Creek High School in Charlotte, N.C. tweeted the date Tuesday night, listing South Carolina and Tennessee, along with North Carolina and NC State.
South Carolina, along with the help of Eric Douglas, will try to score a return visit for the team’s recruiting cookout this Saturday. Douglas is working against his Mallard Creek teammates, DT Grant Gibson, who’s committed to N.C. State and athlete Ryan Jones, who is committed to North Carolina.
Skinny: N.C. State has its big showcase event on Friday. South Carolina’s cookout is the next day. There’s no word yet on whether he’ll visit either one. North Carolina and Tennessee, obviously, are potential destinations, too. His last visit was in late June to N.C. State. With Alabama out of the picture, most assume the battle is between South Carolina and Tennessee, but don’t rule out N.C. State just yet.
Intriguing safety lands offerAfter a strong performance Tuesday at the Muschamp Camp, 2018 safety Israel Mukuamu picked up his first offer from South Carolina.
“Coach Muschamp brought me up to his office and he started talking about me,” Mukuamu said. “He told me that I’m up there as a player and he was ready to offer me.”
The 6-foot-4, 190-pound prospect from Berkeley High School will be back Friday in Columbia, to hang out with the coaches and see more of the campus. He was also on campus last month for the Gamecocks’ second high school 7-on-7 tournament, which Berkeley won.
“It means a lot to me, because it’s my first offer. It means a lot, because South Carolina, they believe in me and my talents, so I really appreciated it,” Mukuamu said.
The camp was already going well Tuesday, before he was offered.
“It was how the coaches were coaching us as their own players,” Mukuamu said. “They were coaching us very hard and that’s impressive. Also, I took a tour around the campus, and I really loved it.”
Skinny: Just as we suspected, South Carolina jumped in with an offer. Once again, kudos to Muschamp and defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson for making the first move on another in-state prospect. Mukuamu still has some room to grow in the weight room, but he profiles well at the college level.
Tennessee linebacker leaves campus impressedT.J. Minnifee, a 2-star outside linebacker who picked up an offer from running backs coach Bobby Bentley at a satellite camp in June, got his first look Tuesday at South Carolina. Joined by Nashville DT Ben Hutch, Minnifee had a brief encounter with Muschamp, before they left campus.
“I only probably spent about 5-10 minutes with him (Tuesday), but he’s supposed to give me a call (Wednesday),” Minnifee said.
Most of his time was with outside linebacker coach Mike Peterson and defensive line coach Lance Thompson. Most of his 1-on-1 encounters were with Peterson.
“I loved his enthusiasm and he really knows what he’s talking about when it comes to pass rushing,” Minnifee said.
The Wilson Central High School (Lebanon) rising senior liked what he saw in Columbia.
“The facilities really surprised me,” he said. “I knew they were nice but I didn’t know how nice they were. I liked the campus because of the size but also because of the location.”
As of Monday night, Hutch was still waiting for the word on whether or not South Carolina is going to offer.
Skinny: South Carolina continues to pursue a handful of outside linebackers, including Pendleton (S.C.) 3-star prospect Brad Johnson, who’s among the remaining priorities for the Gamecocks. Minnifee hopes to make another visit back to South Carolina, but nothing has been scheduled.

Fields is the younger brother of former South Carolina commitment/current Clemson cornerback Mark Fields. The 5-foot-10, 170-pound prospect from Hough High School (Cornelius, N.C.) already has offers from Clemson, N.C. State and Tennessee.
Baker is from Newton-Conover High School in Newton, N.C.
