Notes on Truesdell
On Wednesday afternoon, SEC Country spent a considerable amount of time with Tyrone Truesdell, a 3-star defensive tackle from Laney High School in Augusta, Ga.
The No. 33-ranked defensive tackle in the Class of 2017 has taken four unofficial visits this season: South Carolina for the East Carolina and Georgia games, Georgia for the Tennessee game and Florida for the Kentucky game.
Nothing else has been scheduled, but he is looking to get back out on the road after taking the ACT on Saturday.
Louisville, Ole Miss and Florida are “guaranteed” to receive an official visit at some point down the road — distance from home being a big reason why.
Getting to South Carolina’s campus requires a quick hour-plus car ride, whereas the other three take anywhere from five to eight hours. So, it’s safe to say that South Carolina certainly has proximity on its side.
Georgia Tech, the next closest school that’s offered, a short ride down I-20, but it is pursuing Truesdall as an offensive lineman.
Auburn and Kentucky are also in the mix for Truesdell, who would probably jump all over an offer from Georgia.

He went into more detail about the trip to Columbia for the Gamecocks game against the Dawgs:
“It went good for me,” Truesdell said. “It showed me what they needed and how it was looking like my chances at getting the starting position.”
It also afforded him a chance to speak with coaches, players and commitments, things he didn’t get to do before the ECU game, since he was a late arrival.
Truesdell enjoyed his time with Muschamp, defensive line coach Lance Thompson and their families.
“That’s another big thing for me … instead of them looking at you as just another player, they can look at you as one of their own,” Truesdell said.
At one point, the plan was to make a decision about a week before signing day, but now there is no timetable for a commitment.
On the road again
Typically, noon showdowns against teams like Massachusetts don’t attract a lot of recruits. No offense to the Minutemen, but that’s just the way it is.
And that’s why, two days before kickoff, SEC Country’s confirmed guest list is a little sparse:
The 3-star prospect from Miami Carol City (Fla.) High School plans to arrive on Friday.
“I should be hanging out with coach (Travaris Robinson) and hopefully, get a chance to talk to one of the teammates who used to play for Carol City,” Culpepper said.

Night games against conference opponents are a different story. Several prospects have confirmed their plans to be in Williams-Brice the following weekend when Tennessee rolls into town:
Calbert, who’s from Warren County High School in McMinnville, Tenn., visited for the Texas A&M game.
“I like South Carolina a lot,” he said. “It has a pretty good atmosphere and nice people. The improvement since coach Muschamp got there has gone up. I like that and that the offensive line has improved as well. I really liked the campus there and coach (Shawn) Elliott.”
In addition to the plans by 5-star DE Xavier Thomas to visit Alabama this weekend, several other South Carolina targets will hit the road this weekend:
