South Florida OT returns to South Carolina
After visiting in June and picking up an offer, 2017 OT Jordan Carty was back on campus Monday, along with several of his teammates from South Broward High School in Hollywood, Fla.
Carty tweeted about his trip after the team departed for Florida State. He also reached out to SEC Country, to add some thoughts about his second visit to see the Gamecocks.
“(My team) did a camp while I went on a little visit around the school,” Carty said. “I (saw) the sports facility it was very nice. I was amazed a little, as well. Also, (saw) the player dorms, which were very nice and also the weight room.”
N.C. State, North Carolina and West Virginia have also offered the 6-foot-7, 265-pound prospect.
Skinny: Carty was an impressive looking prospect when he worked out for the South Carolina coaches last month, hence the offer. As long as he keeps returning to campus, you have to feel good about the chances of reeling him in. With three offensive linemen already committed, the Gamecocks also remain in pursuit of 4-star prospect T.J. Moore.
Rock Hill sack-master to return
Eli Adams, a 2018 linebacker from South Pointe High School in Rock Hill, S.C., is expected to be back Tuesday in Columbia. Since he camped with the Gamecocks last month, he won’t be on the field for more work, just to visit with the coaches.
South Carolina continues to sit in the driver’s seat for Adams, who was offered by the Gamecocks two months ago.
As a defensive end last season, Adams had 18 sacks for the South Carolina AAA state champions. He’s preparing to play more linebacker this fall, since he projects to be at the position at the college level.
Skinny: Adams appears to be all South Carolina. Though it’s his only offer, Adams is originally from the area, and he grew up pulling for the Gamecocks.
Another in-state cookout visitor
On Monday night, Greenwood WR Jacoby Pinckney III informed SEC Country of his plans to visit Saturday for the cookout.
South Carolina was first to offer the 2018 prospect earlier this spring. He was previously on campus in June, during Muschamp Camp.
As a sophomore, Pinckney had 61 catches for 627 yards and four touchdowns. The 6-foot-4, 190-pound prospect has yet to receive a second offer.
Skinny: Pinckney represents yet another in-state prospect that South Carolina was first to move in on with an offer.
Name to know
As Preston Parsons continues to emerge on the recruiting scene, it’s important for South Carolina fans to keep something in mind: North Carolina and Wake Forest know who he is, too. He camped at both schools earlier this summer.
Parsons worked at wide receiver during camp Monday, but he has the frame to grow into a tight end at the next level. But he can run. At the North Carolina camp, Parsons clocked a hand-timed 4.6 in the 40-yard-dash.
As mentioned Monday afternoon, Parsons spoke with defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson before camp began. Tight ends coach Pat Washington met with him at the end of the day.
South Carolina’s coaches will take a look at Parsons’ film and continue to track him this fall. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound prospect attends The Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, Conn., but he’s from New Hampshire.
Skinny: The New England native likes the idea of playing his college ball in this part of the country, so the Gamecocks could be in strong position, if they choose to move forward with an offer.
