Elite prospect back in town Friday
With several prospects already confirmed for camp on Friday, the guest list got even more impressive Thursday night when Xavier Thomas hit up Twitter.

The 5-star defensive end from Wilson High School in Florence, S.C. will join 2018 safety Israel Mukuamu (Berkeley, S.C.), as the visitors with offers from South Carolina.
One more name can be added to the camp guest list, and that’s 2017 WR Cam Burnette, who’s from Summerville, S.C. The confirmed camper list also includes 2018 CB Quavian White (Greer, S.C.), 2019 CB Tyus Fields (Cornelius, N.C.) and 2019 CB Myles Baker (Newton, N.C.).
Skinny: As always, it’s big news when Thomas, the No. 3 player in the nation in the Class of 2018, makes plans to visit South Carolina.
Lots of interesting guests for Saturday cookout
The festivities get cranked up at 10:30 Saturday morning and continue into the afternoon. Muschamp’s second cookout at South Carolina has a solid guest list that includes a number of the remaining priorities for the Gamecocks 2017 class.
Zay Brown will bring several of his family members for his first trip back to Columbia since his camp visit in June. If there’s enough room in the car, the 3-star safety from Clarke Central High School in Athens, Ga. will squeeze in his teammate, 2019 RB Jonathan Sewell, who was also offered by the Gamecocks last month.
A name to keep an eye on
Silver Bluff High School (Aiken, S.C.) DE Devontae Davis worked out at a couple of different positions Thursday, including offensive tackle, where he was put through the paces by offensi[SIZE= 14px]ve line coach Shawn Elliott.[/SIZE]
“He exposed me to a technique I was unfamiliar with,” Davis said.
South Carolina’s staff will continue to evaluate the Class of 2017 prospect as a defensive end.
“Coach (Muschamp) just said that they’re waiting to see where I finish with my grades since I’m taking a summer course to boost my GPA up,” Davis said. “They’re going to have me come up there for some games.”
It was a quiet summer for the 6-foot-5, 250-pound prospect, who’s spent most of the last several weeks recovering from labrum surgery. He did, however, squeeze in a June trip to Columbia, to watch a session of camp.
Skinny: Davis grew up rooting for Georgia, but an opportunity to play in the SEC with South Carolina would probably be an intriguing offer.
Nashville area safety enjoyed camp
Safety Chris Bell arrived in Columbia with an offer he received from running backs coach Bobby Bentley. On Wednesday, defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson worked out the 3-star safety from Pope John Paul II High School in Hendersonville, Tenn.
“I thought the camp was great. I really loved working with Coach Robinson during individuals and also being pushed by all the other coaches during other parts of the camp,” Bell said. “Also, the advice Coach Robinson … gave me during 1-on-1’s was very helpful.”
What was Robinson’s message on Wednesday afternoon?
“He constantly said you have to be smart on the field, and minimize mental mistakes. That really stuck with me during camp,” Bell said.
He’ll “definitely be back down” to South Carolina at some point along the way, “but it will have to be an official visit.”
Skinny: Assuming South Carolina lands Brown on Saturday at the cookout, there may not be much room left at safety in 2017 with Jaylin Dickerson is already on board.
