Steve Spurrier worked the room here at the Wyndham Tampa Westshore for about 20 minutes Saturday, updating his team’s bowl prep for Michigan, coaching up the media boys on what a fade route his, and perhaps taking a few not so subtle indirect shots former quarterback Stephen Garcia and “goofy” players he used to have at USC that he would have to worry about missing team meeting because they had been drinking the night before. Oh yeah, he went there.
Per usual, you can scroll through the highlights below and listen to the audio below. We’ve included all of the audio because it’s great and because the Outback Bowl folks said it’s cool if we give you more than just three minutes. Thanks, Outback Bowl.

To the highlights:

- Spurrier said the facilities at Jefferson High School (Stephen Garcia’s Alma matter) where the team practiced is “first class”.
- Spurrier said they are expecting an exciting and close game against Michigan.
- Connor Shaw is a definite to start the game, but Dylan Thompson will play as well. Spurrier said he still doesn’t know which quarterback will play more. He said he hopes it doesn’t turn into a case of “you messed up now you go play” with the two.
- Spurrier said the defensive coaches are preparing for Michigan to play two quarterbacks as well.
- Spurrier said Miles, Davis and Carson are all ready to see action at running back.
- Spurrier said with so much of his family in Columbia and his health still good and his job security strong, he’s got a good thing going right now at USC.
- Fun fact: Michigan coach Brady Hoke’s brother John was Steve Spurrier’s defensive coordinator at Florida for a spell.
- Spurrier said they don’t have as many “goofy” type guys on the team as they had in the past. He didn’t name names, but said he doesn’t have to worry about any players coming back late after going out drinking.
