Summer hiking thread

More pics...sorry if I'm grandstanding.

Lower falls....Yellowstone. 8-16-21

This little guy just showed up and made everyone's day. Looks like he's sightseeing. Yellowstone, 8-16-21

p.jpeg

Bitterroot Mtns, W of Hamilton, Montana. MT was all smoked up. Sad. Some of the best summer hiking can be had in Montana. The locals were staying put since fires could pop up at anytime.

Phones are amazing. Just whip 'em out and click a great pic! Bitterroot Mtns....Montana. Elevation was about 7k'.

p.jpeg

San Juan Island, WA. This is one of their beaches looking S. The mtns in the distance are Olympic National Park, and Victoria BC may be in the right of the picture.

p.jpeg

Mt Baker area, East of Bellingham, WA. 7-21-21

p.jpeg

Chuckanut Trail area, Bellingham, WA. These are some tall trees not seen in very many places.

p.jpeg

Crater Lake NP, Oregon. 7-15-21. It's smoky. When I visited this place in '18, you couldn't see anything. Oregon is burning.

p.jpeg

Mt. Scott, Crater Lake....you had to hike up to this view. Almost 9k'.

p.jpeg

Yosemite Valley taken from Glacier Point. 7-12-21. It was around 90 degrees and there is some smoke from fires.

p.jpeg

Yosemite Valley taken earlier in the AM. This one turned out good. 7-13-21

p.jpeg

Yosemite National Park, California. It is a long way up to the top of those peaks.

Jack Rabbit....Sacramento Wildlife Preserve.

p.jpeg

Muir National Monument Redwoods 7-9-21. This is north of the SF Golden Gate area.

p.jpeg

Not a hike, but if in SF....you gotta shoot the bridge. Most of the time, it's covered up with fog.

p.jpeg

Alcatraz.

p.jpeg

Pinnacles NP. This is a smaller and lesser known National Park east of Monterey, CA. This would be a cool place to hike in cooler weather.

p.jpeg

Channel Islands, off the coast of CA. You have a 1 hr boat ride over. There is some hiking required to get to places like this. 6-27-21

p.jpeg

Joshua Tree National Park, CA. It was too hot for much hiking, but a nice place to visit in cooler temps. 6-26-21

I can't see them either, and was stoked. I think the most beautiful sunset I ever saw was at Great Sand Dunes NP.

Great Sand Dunes are awesome. And odd too. You would never expect to find huge sand dunes in the middle of a valley in the Colorado Mountains. But they are there.

Jim's pictures aren't there, and I noticed that my videos aren't there, either.  I posted from my phone, and they show up there, but not on my desktop.

Jim, it doesn't look like those are full URLs? Maybe try posting a different image from a different site that you can see has a full address, like:

Thanks....Dropbox was adding them as personal links. I had to jump through some hoops and create different links.

Awesome pix Jim! Really amazing stuff. The couple of images you took in my neck of the woods are some of my favorite haunts. The Mount Baker-area trip on your way up to Artists Point is a rocky promontory called Panorama Dome; one of my favorite trails, the Lake Ann trail, lies in the valley at the bottom of it, just at the bottom of your pic. And hidden in the clouds in the background is Mount Shuksan, also a pretty impressive sight when it is out. The Chuckanuts are where I spend most of my time on my mountain bike.

Jim, those are amazing.

My wife and I are planning to head to South Dakota in about two weeks.  I'm hoping to get some hiking in while in the Badlands.

Awesome! Are you driving? You can integrate some hikes in your drives if you plan for it. It adds some fun to your driving.

Baker was socked in and snowed up. I did get good pics of Shuksan. Still crazy there is snow on the ground in July/Aug. They ski year round on Mt Hood, east of Portland.  :shok:

Those big trees are the bomb. I can't tell which is which...but sequoias, redwoods, Douglas firs, spruce, and large pines. And as you go up and down in elevation, different trees appear.

Some of the roads in your area of WA remind me of parts of the lowcountry with all the trees hanging over the road.

Around here our two biggies are Western redcedars and Douglas firs.  I have some massive ones on my property that I love but which sometimes give me the willies when the wind really starts to blow!
