Debo, connor and wilds being injured really hurts us a lot guys, hope all of them will recover fast and that we won't have any other important players injured in the future

Wide receiver Deebo Samuel left South Carolina’s 17-13 season-opening victory against North Carolina early due to a hamstring injury. Quarterback Connor Mitch was in and out of the game with cramps and a hip pointer, but he also jammed his thumb. There were several other injuries that could have an impact this weekend against Kentucky.

Offensive lineman Cody Waldrop broke his ankle in practice on Saturday.

“It’s something I thoroughly detest,” Spurrier said of practice injuries. “He’s going to be out quite a while. He might be able to get back late in the season. It’s disappointing to get hurt in practice.”

There's a wait and see approach on several others.

“Connor Mitch had a hip pointer,” Spurrier said. “Terry Googer had a bruised thigh. Deebo Samuel had a hamstring. I don’t know if they’ll be back by the weekend. We’ll have to see how it goes through the week.”

Spurrier said “we think (Mitch)” will be available. He won’t practice on Monday though.

Samuel and Googer did not practice with the team on Saturday. Spurrier noted that Brandon Wilds has a bruised shoulder, didn’t practice on Saturday, and “might be a little iffy” for Saturday.

Samuel did not catch a pass in his first career action. He played 30 offensive snaps before going down with his injury but he also saw action as the primary kickoff returner. The Chapman High School product returned one kickoff for 23 yards.
