Chris Lammons de-committed from Florida on Thursday and then later named South Carolina and Wisconsin as his top two. It appears both schools are quite confident Lammons ends up with them the way things stand right now. Here's the latest on what I'm hearing.

Why South Carolina feels confident

South Carolina just missed on Lammons the first time around. In fact, there were many who felt the four-star cornerback was headed to Columbia instead of Florida when he made his first commitment in August. Since then, the Gamecocks have stayed in touch with Lammons and built an excellent relationship with him, led by Grady Brown. Although they didn't have an in-home visit or get an official visit from the Top247 cornerback, I'm hearing South Carolina has always kind of felt Lammons would back away from his Florida pledge. It seems that South Carolina has been waiting patiently all along and will now make their big move in January. The Gamecocks feel they'll be tough to hold off, especially after just missing on him the first time.

Why Wisconsin feels confident

While South Carolina was waiting, Wisconsin was putting in the work to try and flip Lammons. Make no mistake, the Gamecocks had been trying to get Lammons on an official visit during the season, but it's Wisconsin who got one in November. Lammons will still head to Columbia either next weekend or the following weekend, but during the season, a knowledgeable source said the Badgers were his next choice behind Florida. The Wisconsin staff also got two in-home visits with Lammons, while South Carolina didn't have any. Assistant Coaches Chris Beatty and Ben Strickland have been relentless in their pursuit. Wisconsin also has an in-home visit remaining with Lammons this month as presumably Head Coach Gary Andersen will make his way down to Florida.

Where things stand

Although the Crystal Ball is trending heavily towards South Carolina right now, don't count out Wisconsin. As we've said, it's the Badgers who have done most of the work to try and flip him, even if their efforts weren't a direct result of Lammons' change of heart. One source told me immediately after Lammons de-committed that the Badgers "have a good chance" to get the nation's No. 19 ranked cornerback. We'll know a lot more after Lammons takes his official visit to South Carolina, but this race appears to still be neck and neck at the moment.

Like I always say, if he stupid enough to go to Wisconsin he's too stupid to play for us in the first place.
