I want to preface this by saying that I am very happy with the recruiting class that Muschamp and Co have compiled not only this year but in his entire tenure so far. We have one five star in our current class in Zacch Pickens. What I would love to see is for our staff to take the next step and sign a five star from out-of-state

This isn't a unique thing. Even under Spurrier and Holtz before that, whenever USC signed a five-star player out of HS, every one of them was an in-state kid. Lattimore, Clowney, Demetris Summers (pretty sure he was a 5). All were in-state players. I can't remember a single five-star HS player that we have ever signed who wasn't a South Carolina kid.

Clemson hasn't had that problem. Georgia hasn't had that problem. Bama, Ohio State, UF, FSU, etc. They've all been able to go into another state and sign a five-star player that everyone wanted.

From Trevor Lawrence to Deshaun Watson to CJ Spiller, Clemson has been able to go out-of-state and sign highly rated 5 stars. Georgia got Todd Gurley, Sony Michel and Aaron Murray from other states.  Yes QB Ryan Hilinksi from California is pretty close to being it now but still a high 4 star.

Question for the board: What will it take for the Gamecocks to get to that level?
