The rocket has landed in Columbia RB Rocket Sanders commits to the Gamecocks

South Carolina Wednesday picked up a commitment from one of the most coveted players in the Transfer Portal. RB Raheim “Rocket” Sanders (6-2 242), a native of Rockledge, FL and a bona fide star at Arkansas, announced his plans to join the Gamecocks in January. The news of his likely transfer to the Gamecocks was first reported Wednesday morning by Matt Zenitz of 247Sports.
Sanders was a first-team All-SEC performer in 2022 rushing for 1143 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also had 28 catches for 271 yards and two touchdowns.
Against the Gamecocks in Fayetteville that September, Sanders was nearly unstoppable as he rushed for 156 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries and caught three passes for 30 yards.
Injuries slowed Sanders this past season. He played in only six games and had 62 carries for 209 yards and two touchdowns. As a freshman in 2021, Sanders rushed for 578 yards and five touchdowns.
Current USC coaches Justin Stepp and Dowell Loggains are both connected to Sanders from their time at Arkansas. USC also recruited Sanders out of high school and was one of the top schools on his list before he committed to the Razorbacks.
