The venting thread

I us to say 3 to 5 but with the portal and now taken out the SAT scores should  see result in two years and by 3 should be at the stage level of competing with other SEC teams beside Vanderbilt.

I think it is time to look to the future and let some young guys get playing time.  This season is clearly not going anywhere.  If Brown is close or Gauthier get them out there and let them get experience.  You can see by what Bama did to Tennessee that we are nowhere close to being competitive with the middle of the pack in the SEC.
Agree, nothing to loose.  Brown and Noland only have this year left, both seniors.  Gauthier is a freshman get him in their and give him some time.  Same with the rest of the positions.  Maybe we can get a win over Missouri and get lucky against Clemson.  As far as coaches go I'm willing to let CSB make those calls.  Ultimately his arse on the line.  Maybe time to get tougher.   But please get creative with the running game and limit the perimeter/screen pass unless we pull some blockers that don't whiff or HOLD!

JimG check that think he is a senior.

Brown impressed head coach Shane Beamer. The senior transfer from FCS St. Francis (Pennsylvania) went 8-for-14 passing for 84 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions, saving South Carolina from leaving College Station with a historically bad day on the stat sheet.

We hit rock bottom last year in the aTm game ... and have now spent a full season between those two games living at rock bottom. We haven't made any headway to climbing out.

Just an ugly night of football for us I really didn't think that they guys were that bad but it showed up Saturday night.   With that said there is

nothing else to say just an ugly football team in every phase of the game.

^ This - Before the season, I think most folks thought 4-6 wins is the best we could do. And that's right where we will end up. Not sure what people expected. For beamer to walk in and turn this around instantly. He doesn't even have a full recruiting class in yet.
there is a difference in losing and not even being competitive...I thought 5 wins was the ceiling but we are getting the doors blown off of us at every turn...hell we got lucky to be ECU and Vandy....that being said Huepel seems to have turned around a mediocre UT team to at least be able to put some points on the board whereas we thrive in garbage time...I hope that you guys are correct about recruiting but I guess time will tell

I did some much-needed yard work Saturday afternoon, rested for a bit, and decided to work on a personal project online the rest of the night instead of watching or listening to the game.  I figured I would only watch the game replay if we won or kept the score close, which didn't happen.

Here is the box score from the game:

We lost the 1st half 31-0, but won the second half 14-13.

Just taking a dispassionate look at things from afar, here are my thoughts:

Players.  We don't have enough good players to compete with the first string of a middle- to upper-level SEC team, but it looks like we do okay against their second- and third-stringers in garbage time.  We compete enough to win against a team like Vandy, but that's about it.

Coaching Staff.  It's hard for me to know where the dividing line is between coaches and players unless I am actually there with them, but I was more impressed with the current staff in their pressers more than those of any recent previous staffs.  They are getting used to working together in their first season as a staff while they are getting punched in the face by opposing coaches.  They are having to re-evaluate both themselves as well as their players against the reality of an actual SEC season in which neither are doing very well.

Clemson.  #17 Pitt handled Clemson 27-17 Saturday night.  The Taters are 4-3 and are mortal this year.  They play #13 Wake Forest the week before our game with them and that's likely another loss for them as well.  There might be another.

Going 6-5 is not normally an acceptable season, but finding another win and then beating the Taters to become bowl eligible would be a good season for a first-year coach here.

Shane's incredibly positive attitude gives me confidence that this may be our final result this season.  I believe he will keep the team pumped up enough to get the wins and become bowl eligible.

Recruiting not great. Especially if the Gamecocks do not  finish strong and leaning that way seems. Typical  class at this time.

King good assessment on the positive side. Hope your right.

There were no notable athletes in Shane's first class in 2008.

It took him a year to get settled in and get going.  His classes after that were pretty good.

107.5 had a great interview with Mangus last week.

He said you have to try your best to coach an athlete, but if that doesn't work, then you have to recruit a better player.

I believe that's where we are at right now with too many of our players, but I believe Shane will get things shored up enough in Year 2.

No venting from me. It's too early for that. I'm not sold on the "fire Satterfield" sentiment either.

That said, Adkins needs to never coach again.

The Vols have a bye this week like we do, but play #12 UK the next week and will most certainly lose to go to 2-4 in the SEC.

Find a way to beat the Gators in two weeks and we would likely be in a 3-way tie for third in the SEC East.  It wouldn't be pretty, but better than nothing.

Find a way.

Stay positive.  Stay focus.

Agree bro, I am trying my best to hold onto the end of season on Satterfield. Adkins for sure though...

114th in total offense after last night

I'm not sure how, but there are actually 16 teams averaging fewer yards per game than we are. But we are consistently terrible at both running and passing the ball, as we are 102nd in rushing offense and 89th in passing offense. Most importantly, we are 112th in scoring offense. Guess scapegoats are Sat and Adkins.

If Satterfield is public enemy No. 1 on South Carolina message board, offensive line coach Greg Adkins might be a close second. Fair or not, Adkins has been a scapegoat for the problems up front after inheriting a group that had more than 100 appearances among its projected starters. To Adkins’ and Beamer’s credit, THE Gamecocks have made an effort to mix up the line combinations both by design and due to a handful of injuries. Premises aside, it shows a willingness to adapt and correct. South Carolina’s offense has a wealth of issues, but if it can’t block, it can’t do much of anything. The Gamecocks have to get better up front if they’re to somehow steal a pair of wins and get to a bowl game.

So we should be happy that in the second half when they were playing their scrubs we won??? We got blown out, let’s not sugar coat it.

And Brown may be all we have but that stat sheet sucks. 84 yards and 2 INTs. Maybe it’s just coach speak but I read through that. It just seems like Shane is still trying to figure out what he has both in players and coaches and that’s frustrating. But to be fair I said the same about Spurrier early on. But Spurrier and Shane are in two different places in their career when at SC.

I didn’t expect us to be much better wins vs loses but let’s at least look better coached. Which we do not look.

Not really a vent but a question.  Is the problem on the O line scheme or talent.  With 8 games behind us, fall and spring practice behind us how long does it take to learn a new scheme, is it that complicated?  Is the scheme wrong for SEC football.  Give the coaches credit they are trying different things.  But at the end of the day what's the issue.  D has issues too but that's another post.

We've always had decent OL play. We certainly had it last year. Wolfie was a good coach. CSE was a good coach. I've never seen us field an oline this bad before, not when we were 0-11.

Apples and oranges here. What I do not understand is why Clemson offense is in the toilet, just as bad as the Gamecocks. They have the talent and same coaches. WHY? When I think about I ease up. Just will wait till season ends. trying my best not to knees jerk reaction here. Got to what.....

I think Lawrence and Etienne carried that offense and maybe covered up some warts that are showing up now.

Etienne was very good at making his cuts at the right time, just like Lattimore for us.
