Three-star athlete Denzel Johnson 6'2" 187lbs (Columbia/A.C. Flora) is a name that has been mentioned on a few occasions this recruiting cycle and he's someone that South Carolina continues to monitor. As of 6 p.m. on Tuesday night, Johnson does not plan on signing anywhere on National Signing Day. I was told that there are a half dozen or so schools that are talking to him but he doesn't have an NLI from anyone - at least a major program - to sign tomorrow.
Johnson is going to try to improve his academics enough to earn a full scholarship offer. As far as where the Gamecocks stand, it didn't sound like the school has made any firm promises to this point. Reading between the lines though, if Johnson makes the grade, it does sound like he will get a spot in this class.
If Johnson doesn't make the grades, South Carolina would like to place him.
The South Carolina coaches have been in contact with him on a couple of occasions this week. This is a situation that's going to play out after signing day. I'll be at A.C. Flora High School tomorrow morning though to pick up a morning update.
