South Carolina linebacker recruit Channing Tindall announced a commitment on Thursday afternoon. But it wasn’t that kind of a commitment.
Tindall, a 4-star who’s listed by 247Sports as the No. 1 overall prospect from the state, announced that he has committed to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
A rising senior at Spring Valley High School (Columbia, S.C.), Tindall currently favors South Carolina ahead of Auburn, Florida and Georgia. The Dawgs were once thought to be the primary contender, but they recently lost footing.
“I love coach (Will) Muschamp. If I go to South Carolina, I could help change the culture and be with family,” Tindall said.
Two 247Sports Crystal Ball picks were issued for the Gamecocks on Thursday morning. All seven selections are for the hometown team.
Tindall, who has also been invited to play in the Under Armour game, plans to make a commitment within the first two or three games during his senior season.
According to the 247Sports composite, he is ranked as the No. 6 outside linebacker in the Class of 2018. Nationally, he is the No. 130 overall prospect.
South Carolina currently has one linebacker committed for 2018: 3-star Ernest Jones IV (Waycross, Ga.).
