Top 2019 WR enjoys game day in Columbia

With four wide receivers committed to sign with South Carolina in 2018, there’s room for just one prospect from the 2019 cycle.
Three-star recruit Nolan Groulx, the No. 25 overall prospect from North Carolina, is among the top contenders for that spot. Groulx (5-foot-11, 185 pounds) attends Hough High School in Cornelius, N.C.
Earlier this season, he visited South Carolina for the Kentucky game.
“We got there a little late so we didn’t have that much time, but they were talking to me about how I’m one of their main guys that they’re recruiting,” Groulx said.
So far this season, he’s caught 41 passes for 643 yards and 5 touchdowns. As a sophomore at Davidson Day, Groulx caught 108 passes for 1,853 yards and 24 touchdowns.
Duke, North Carolina State, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, West Virginia and Wisconsin have offered him a scholarship.
“It was great,” he said of the most recent stop in Columbia. “The atmosphere was just what I wanted in a school. It was Gamecocks yelling across the stadium and everything like that.
“The way the receivers played and how [wide receivers] coach [bryan] McClendon coaches and how much they threw the ball, I liked that also. It was just a great atmosphere. The warmups were great. The fans were great, especially the tailgating before the game. I’m sure my parents loved that, with how much was going on for their first home game. It was awesome.”
McClendon, who doubles as the Gamecocks co-offensive coordinator, is expected to see Groulx’s game on Friday night.
Coaches from Wake Forest, West Virginia and Notre Dame have already seen Groulx play this season. He’s also visited Wake Forest and James Madison, where his brother plays.
Up next for him are trips to Ohio State and Wisconsin.
