Gamecocks jump on Georgia WR
Last week, South Carolina wide receivers coach Bryan McClendon told 2018 wide receiver Jatavious Harris about his offer from the Gamecocks.
“We were just talking. He was saying he wanted to stay in contact with me and offer me a scholarship,” Harris said.
He added, “It means a lot. I wanted to pick up the offer.”
The 6-foot-3, 185-pound prospect from Baldwin High School in Milledgeville, Ga., also has offers from Florida, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Miami and Marshall. His only college visit was in November to Miami.
Several factors will be considered as he moves through the recruiting process.
“The other recruits in my class. The quarterback they already have and different things, the coaching staff,” Harris said.
More on Zion Williamson
Spartanburg Day School coach Lee Sartor called 5-star Zion Williams, the No. 2-ranked basketball player in the Class of 2018, one of the “most humble” kids he’s ever coached.
“Kids run up to him and want his autograph. People run up to him and want his autograph, I think he handles it like a professional,” Sartor said, after Williamson scored 53 points at the Chick-fil-A Classic on Tuesday night.
“You would think he’s a whole lot older than 16. He doesn’t take anything for granted. He doesn’t take people for granted. The appreciation for him, he doesn’t take it for granted. Obviously, I’m glad he’s on our team.”
Williamson put on his impressive performance in front of several college coaches, including South Carolina’s Frank Martin, North Carolina’s Roy Williams and Clemson’s Brad Brownell.
“I’ve seen him do amazing stuff every single day in practice. You see him do this, what he did (Tuesday night), it doesn’t surprise me,” Sartor said. “He’s such a competitor. You normally don’t get a kid that has the work ethic, has the basketball skills and has a great attitude all in one. When you get a kid like that, you get Zion Williamson.”
Sartor paid the 6-foot-7, 220-pound small forward the ultimate compliment for a basketball player.
“Zion is the type of player — he makes everybody better. I once said that my plays work better because of Zion. I think he makes his teammates better,” Sartor said. “Here’s the thing with Zion, he strives on that. He wants to make people around him better.”
When asked what Williamson needed to work on, Sartor went told reporters that his outside shot could improve.
“He’s a great ball-handler. A lot of people don’t realize, two years ago, he was my starting point guard. He’s still been able to hone in on those skills and critique those skills,” Sartor said. “On the perimeter, he’s outstanding. Around the basket, he’s fantastic. And he knows his goal is to be the No. 1 player in the country, in all of the polls. I think he’s well on his way to make this happen.”
