South Carolina hosts Michel Dukes
Michel Dukes, the No. 4 overall 2019 prospect from South Carolina, rushed 8 times for 220 yards and 3 touchdowns in First Baptist’s 45-0 win against Academic Magnet on Friday.
About 24 hours later, Dukes returned to South Carolina for the 2017 home opener against Kentucky.
“It was great. I had lots of fun, enjoyed the game. It was good to see the coaches again and all of my friends,” he said.
Dukes is buddies with 2018 South Carolina quarterback commitment Dakereon Joyner and wide receiver Justin Williams, his classmate from Fort Dorchester High School (North Charleston, S.C.).
Running backs coach Bobby Bentley also caught up with the 5-foot-10, 190-pound prospect from Charleston, S.C.
“He was just talking to me about how my season is going, my family and explaining that Carolina is building up something special and that they want me to come,” Dukes said.
Despite the Gamecocks’ loss, Dukes enjoyed the experience at Williams-Brice Stadium.
“It was wild,” he said. “I felt it when I was on the field watching them warm up. I could just feel the excitement and the crowd was just crazy. It was sold out.”
Dukes has also been to games at Clemson and North Carolina this season. This Saturday, he’ll visit Georgia.
South Carolina recruiting priorities
Four-star prospects Jaycee Horn and Rick Sandidge and 4-star commitment Josh Vann all visited South Carolina on Saturday for the Kentucky game. All four caught up with Phil Kornblut.
“They’ve got Jamarcus King; he’s a senior DB. Chris Lammons he’s a senior,” Horn said. “And Rashad Fenton might come out, so I mean it’s a good opportunity to play there, and their program is on the rise.”
The cornerback from Alpharetta, Ga., remains committed to Tennessee, but he still plans to take other official visits.
Sandidge, a 4-star defensive tackle from Concord, N.C., also was in town Saturday for the home opener.
“I had a good time,” he said. “I know they were disappointed, but you win some, you lose some. I talked to Coach Bentley, [defensive line] coach [Lance] Thompson and coach [Will] Muschamp. They said I have a huge opportunity here, [to] get playing time and an education, stuff like that.”
For Vann, a wide receiver, it was his first opportunity to watch the Gamecocks play in person.
“It was pretty much stuff that I feel I’ll be able to perform well at,” he said of the offense. “It was pretty basic, wasn’t too difficult to play. It’s pretty much something I can adapt well to. By going to the game, it let me know how things are going to be on game day.”
Official visit set
Five-star defensive end K.J. Henry (Clemmons, N.C.) will take an official visit to Georgia this weekend. Earlier this month, he was in Clemson unofficially for the Auburn game.
Alabama, South Carolina and Virginia Tech are also in the mix for him.
