After listening to all the talking heads about whats next (national, local, regional, professional, amateur, etc) I have pulled together a solution for the the ACC, Big12 & Pac-12. Now I understand this is highly unlikely and mostly not workable. Just in the last few days one of the professionals said the new Big-16 (going to 20+) will have "student" travel from USC to Maryland for a game. His take is the 5/6 hour flights ends the "student athlete" sham. His Take.

So what would a "coast to coast conference" look like for real. If you combine the ACC, Big12 Pac-12 it would look something like this. I am assuming ND goes to Big10 soon.

Coast to Coast Conference (CCC)
Mass 1 Boston College
NY 1 Syracuse
PA 1 Pitt
WV 1 W V U
OHIO 1 Cincy
VA 2 VA VA Tech
NC 4 UNC Duke Wake NC St
SC 1 Clemson
GA 1 GA Tech
FL 3 FL St UCF MIA
KS 2 Kan Kan St
TX 4 Baylor Houston TCU TX Tech
IA 1 Iowa St
OK 1 OK St
UT 2 BYU Utah
AZ 2 AZ AZ St
CO 1 Colorado
OR 2 OR OR St
WA 2 Wash Wash St
CA 2 Cal Stanford

35 teams but with some defections to Big10 and SEC we could wind up with 20 or so teams in 3 conferences after all. Happy to play along with the what if game.

Just thinking about football, taveling across the country for a 2-3 games per season is not too bad. But take that down to every lower sport. The volleyball team, tennis team, track team, swim team, etc all now have to travel a lot further more often.

Really hate to see all that has transpired over the last few years in College FB. Really tough to watch for long-time fans.

In general, no one has really filled the voids left by Spurrier and Gary Pinkel at Mizzou after they left for different reasons.

Us and Mizzou were consistent threats to UGA, UK, and UF under those two coaches.

Spurrier and Morrison both had our teams playing at high levels that really haven't been consistently matched over the years. Sure, both coaches had their share of blow-out losses, but the football basics were always fundamentally good on both sides of the ball for us to be consistently ranked fairly good even when the overall records weren't that good in terms of wins and losses.

I believe the next two seasons under Shane will be pretty good for us. The balance of power in the SEC will change if we can consistently put dents in the Gators, Vols, Dawgs, and Taters every year like we used to under Spurrier.

In his early years with us, Spurrier struggled against Auburn under Tuberville and Chizik and UGA under Richt and the Vols under Fulmer. His record against those teams got better once Shane's recruits established themselves. Clemson always choked on the big ones under Bowden and Dabo until Dabo recruited better than Steve after Shane left.

This coming season I believe we will be on a par with UK, UF, and the Vols, with UGA and Clemson being maybe doubtful due to recruiting depth for no other reason.

I just think the league expansion talk will change or disappear after a season close to normal without major Covid interruptions plays out.

I really hope this. While I despise UF, TN and FL as foes, it kills me that KY has surpassed us as a football program -- that shakes my world order. Give Mark Stoops big props for creating a good football program at KY, but I really hope this year we're able to return some order to my view of the football world.

I don't see how any school could justify paying that amount even if they had it.
Agree, especially any state schools. I guess an argument could be made for long term benefit -- if the buyout uses no academic or taxpayer funds. But this is the same level of concern that is frequently ignored with taxpayer funds utilized for building pro stadiums/arenas/rinks/ball parks.

"What would it take for a team to leave? An exit fee (3x annual revenue) would be in the neighborhood of $120-150M. Then, assuming the ACC allowed a team to buy out its media rights, you'd be looking at another $300M or so, minimum, from 2024-36. But here's the thing: The ACC has no incentive to settle for a buyout. Instead, it could simply say, "We own your broadcast rights. Your games will air on our network or not at all." And what value is there for any other league to add an ACC team that can't earn TV money?"

When the NIL stuff first started, I be like, "Derp!"

Then when the league expansion stuff started happening, I be like, "Derp!"

Is players not having to leave a team after graduation, because they are "employees", the next step in all of this "creativity"?

I hadn't even thought about possible impact to eligibility limits.

"Ladies and gentlemen, now introducing our starting quarterback, the 12-year senior... "

We all unfortunately know how mediocre Gamecock football has been the past 8 years.

Imagine those same teams with Connor Shaw, a healthy Marcus Lattimore, Clowney, Alshon and DJ Swagg as franchise players.

I don't about the boosters, but I would have been okay with that. LOL
