Tylin Oden
The college football recruiting dead period is over and coaches can hit the road. New USC offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Kurt Roper is headed to Columbia, TN Thursday to meet with QB Tylin Oden 6'5" 180lbs, a Louisville commitment who is very interested in what Roper and the Gamecocks have to show him.  He will make an official visit with his parents this weekend.

Oden said USC assistant Bobby Bentley first contacted him just before the start of the dead period and then he and Roper began to talk and things have heated up from there.

“Me and him have a really good relationship and we were just talking about his resume and how he’s been in the NFL and stuff like that,” Oden said.  “He wanted me to come on an official visit and meet Coach Muschamp.  That’s really all we’ve been talking about.”

Oden is a dual threat quarterback who can burn a defense with his arm and is legs.  From their conversations he gathers that Roper likes what he’s seen of him on film and thinks he can handle what they would throw at him.

“Being in the offense I am I can do just about anything,” Oden said.  “I can throw in the shotgun, I can throw from under center.  I can roll out and throw.  I can hit my intermediate throws and stuff like that.  That’s really what he was talking about, and my athleticism, too.  I can make plays when stuff breaks down.  I think that’s really what stood out to him.”

The Gamecocks have not yet offered Oden but that could change as early as Thursday or this weekend.  He said growing up USC was one of his favorite teams and he greatly admired Connor Shaw.

Besides the official visit to USC, the only other official visit he has set right now is to Iowa State January 22nd.  He has taken his official visit to Louisville and he’s made it clear to the Cardinals his commitment is “soft” in nature and he is still looking around.

He said his visit to USC will be his first excursion into South Carolina.  He said he’s not expecting to make any decision this weekend as he wants to take his time and take his other visit.

This season Oden passed for 1300 yards and 15 touchdowns and rushed for 1000 yards and 12 touchdowns.
