The University of South Carolina baseball team opens a five-game homestand on Tuesday night (May 10) as the Gamecocks host USC Upstate at Founders Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday's game will be streamed on SEC Network Plus. All games also will be broadcast on the Gamecock Sports Network with Tommy Moody and Stuart Lake on the call.

SERIES VS. USC UPSTATE
The Gamecocks have won all 13 meetings with USC Upstate heading into Tuesday's game. The last meeting took place in 2019, when the Gamecocks won a 1-0 thriller. Jonah Beamon's single in the bottom of the ninth broke a scoreless tie. Wes Clarke had three hits in that game while Parker Coyne struck out six in five innings of work.

Their record says the Spartans are pretty good this season and this is a game we can certainly lose.

Hopefully not.

Absolutely we can lose this one but shouldn't. They did beat the Citadel and swept PC. We lost to both. They were competitive in a series vs Xavier beating them once and we were blown out by Xavier in the only game we played them. We smoked Gardner-Webb and they won 2-3 against them.

Another loss to an in state school. 9-6 Upstate. The post season discussions should end soon.

I turned it off after Jones was getting close to 50 pitches in the second inning and had given up 4 runs.

USC Upstate got off to a strong start against South Carolina starting pitcher Eli Jones, who exited after tossing 46 pitches in 1.1 innings. Just under a week removed from his first career win, Jones was charged with all four runs of the Spartans’ productive second inning.

Jones met with USC’s trainer and Kingston before walking off the mound, having recently recovered from Tommy John surgery. Aidan Hunter pitched 5.2 innings out of the bullpen, allowing five runs on seven hits with five strikeouts. John Gilreath allowed no runs and one hit with two strikeouts in 2.0 innings.

Kingston didn’t have an immediate update on Jones’ health, saying he “didn’t feel right tonight” and would need to consult with trainers and doctors.

I hope Jones is okay. Not sure what we have left in the bullpen at this point.
