Israel Mukumau
USC was an early offer for DB Israel Mukuamu when he lived in Moncks Corner and attended Berkeley, and the Gamecocks were very high on him at that point. And he liked them. But Mukuamu moved to Bossier City, LA earlier this year and while his recruiting turned red hot with several major offers, USC faded as the contact between the two lessened. But that’s changed now and the Gamecocks have jumped back into the fray for Mukuamu.
“I actually talked to Coach Muschamp on the phone a few days ago and he told me that they really want me,” Mukuamu said. “He said he knows things kind of fell off since I moved to Louisiana but he wants me to give them a shot. “That means a lot to me because the head man reached out to me, so I’m really excited about them.”
Mukuamu announced his top nine Friday and USC is on the list along with Florida State, Louisville, Ole Miss, Georgia State, Indiana, Purdue, Oklahoma State and Florida. The fact Muschamp reached out to him resulted in the Gamecocks being on the list and Mukuamu plans to move forward with them.
“My plan is, if they are really interested in me like they say they are, then I’ll take an official visit there and see what happens,” he said. “I don’t have a leader yet but I thinking about taking official visits to Florida State and Oklahoma State. I haven’t decided on the others yet.”
Mukuamu camped at Clemson earlier this month and that drew more interest from the Tigers but they have not offered and are pursuing Atlanta safety Quindarious Monday at this point.
