USC quarterbacks coach GA Mangus got a close up look Friday at the only quarterback prospect he's offered thus far for the 2014 class, 4 star Drew Barker (6-3 211) of Hebron, KY. As a sophomore, Barker passed for 1473 yards and 7 touchdowns and rushed for 1570 yards and 22 scores. In six games this season, Barker has 1388 yards passing with 13 touchdowns and 724 yards rushing with 7 touchdowns. He also has offers from Louisville, Purdue, Western Kentucky, Illinois, Cincinnati, Indiana and Louisiana Lafayette. He's also drawing interest from Georgia, LSU, Ohio State, Michigan State and Alabama. This season Barker has been to games at Ohio State,, Louisville and Cincinnati and he plans to visit USC for the Tennessee game. “I was going to come in this weekend but my Dad is in Germany,” Barker said. “I'm really interested in South Carolina and they are very interested in me as well. I get mail from them every day. They haven't offered any other 2014 quarterback and that makes me feel good that I'm their guy and their #1 that they want.” Barker said he and Mangus talk weekly and have built a good relationship. He's also taken a close look at the Gamecock offense on TV. “We run the same stuff in my high school,” he said. “Shotgun and zone reads with the quarterback. I feel like I could fit in well with it. It fits my skill set really good. I could see myself play in that offense under Coach Mangus and Coach Spurrier.” Despite all that, Barker stopped short of calling USC, or for that matter anyone, a favorite. “I'm not ready to say a leader,” he said. “I just started the process a month ago and will enjoy it and see what's to come.” Barker visited the USC campus last summer when his family stopped by on the way to Folly Beach for vacation. Barker will narrow his list at some point and wants to make his decision sometime before his senior season.
