*** USC MBB (1-2/3-4) vs. AUB (2-5/8-7) Game Thread ***

That was embarrassing. I had high hopes for this season, but unless something changes soon those hopes will be flushed down the toilet.

There is time to recover.  If, and that is a big word here, we get Frink and McCreary back and they can do some of the scoring, that will take some of the pressure off the guards, who right now are not able to carry the team.  We have to defend better in the paint and keep opponents off the FT line.   And we have to rebound the opponent's missed shots.     I'd rather give up open threes than layups.   It isn't time to give up.   Lots of games left to play.

I agree and I also think the NCAA may waive the record requirement to allow a full tournament of 64 teams this year.

AUB essentially is running a track meet this year with very little defense.  They killed us and it would have been a much closer game with Frink and McCreary available.

It hasn't happened often, but athletes HAVE died from the 'rona and Frank's system is more physically demanding than the average program.

Frank has said the 'rona was a lot tougher too deal with the second time around, which kinda leads to me to believe his first positive test several months ago was a false positive.

I still think there should be a pause in the season to allow for make-up games.

109 points allowed?

I mean what in the actual hell happened there?!?!?

For a guy who emphasizes defense, this is beyond embarrassing.

IDK if you watched or not (so I'll presuppose that the answer is no), but BOTH teams were playing street ball with absolutely ZERO defense.

Particularly telling to me is that our team scored the most points on the season against Auburn when Auburn won a game (other than their very first game in the Fort Meyers Tip-Off against St. Jos.).

We looked abysmal, but Auburn looked pretty terrible too, which says quite a bit about how important the addition of Sharife Cooper to their squad is.

I don't know what Coach Martin will do, but I have to assume that ALL positions on the floor are being considered as "open" for starters right now.  The only reasonable amount of consistency we have seen thus far is from AJ, Keyshawn, and (of all people) Trey Anderson.  And in Trey's case, that consistency was only over two games played, but he now has more minutes on the floor than both Alonzo Frink AND Jayln McCreary).

Geez... I am so beaten down about this team right now.  Our talent levels are the highest they have been in quite some time, and our play... it's about as low as I've seen since Frank first took over the program.  Completely UNdisiplined (as you note... for a guy who emphasizes DISCIPLINED defense..)

What is the hold up on Frink?  I heard speculation that he may have opted out, but I have not followed player availability that closely.

I heard Frink and McCreary were at the Auburn game.   If true, that probably means they are ready to come back to practice, today.   They won't be in good game shape by Wednesday night, but if they can play some it will help us.   It doesn't make a lot of difference who starts the game, but I would limit Woods to 5-10 minutes against UGA, unless he is making some shots.    We need to get the post players scoring more so that the guards don't have to do all the scoring.   On defense, we have to guard well inside the 3 point line and try not to foul.     UGA has another small, fast PG that we need to keep out of the paint.   Make him shoot threes.    The Auburn game might be the low point of the season.   If we can beat UGA on Wednesday, things might improve rapidly.
