*** USC MBB (2-4/4-6) @ #22/23 Florida (6-3/10-4) Game Thread ***

Duane Notice was really good and a warrior at his height. But Couisnard is about two inches taller, which helps with getting his shot off and driving to the rim.

One area we need to get better at is driving to the basket. Our guys get a lane to the rim, get mugged and no call - other teams can drive and we can have three guys defending and in position, and the foul is called.

Not a knock on the refs - well, yeah it is, if you forced up a shot when you are well covered on the playground, you would get laughed off the court for calling a foul. But we need to drive hard and then do a better job of selling the contact. My stomach churns when I see an exaggerated reaction when an opponent is driving and is hardly touched - but that is what the refs see and call.
The other aspect of that is that we also need to do better in not driving the ball into 3 defenders -- we drive the ball into a crowd way too often.  I would love to know the number of times on a fast break that the ball handler passes vs driving.  I bet it's at least 80% drive, even with two wide open team mates.  I know Frank likes to be strong to the rim, but our fast break conversion percentage would go way up if we passed off of the break more frequently.  It might also allow us to get more blocking calls if we weren't continuously driving into defenses on the break.

Minaya did okay in the OOC games last year and then was gone for the season without seeing any SEC playing time.

This year he's thrown into the conference play frying pan without in any OOC games to get reps in.  The long breaks between games have essentially negated the gains from playing the few games have before now.

Frank's recent teams seem to put things together in the latter half of the season, which is not bad if you can pull it off and get to the post-season.

It's easy to forget last year because there was no post-season, but the home games had a pretty electric atmosphere to them because we had a mini-Cinderella season going on.

Tomorrow's MSST game would be a sellout in normal times.

I heard on the radio today that tomorrow's LSU/UF game has been canceled due to Covid issues with the Gators.

Hopefully none of our guys caught anything from them during the game.
