Kentucky was really bad earlier in the season, but seems to have figured out some things. I guess that young talent is starting to learn Calipari's system, and learn how to play together as a team. That doesn't bode well for us, plus the fact that the game is in Rupp Arena. Hopefully Frank's system of muddying up the waters defensively and making the games ugly will confuse and/or frustrate the young UK team into a bunch of mistakes.....

Jalyn McCreary has exploded for 10 points in 5 minutes shooting 4-4. He's helped to keep the team close in the game, as UK leads 32-28 under 4 minutes to play in the 1st half Also USC's defense has actually showed up today, keeping UK at 40% while the Gamecocks are shooting 48%.....

Our guards did not play well on offense in that half.  Too many turnovers and not enough made shots.   Our defense has been pretty good.   And we didn't foul much.   Woods is probably out for this game now.  But he didn't do anything when he played that we'll miss in the second half.

Our guards need to make jumpers.  UK is too big and athletic to drive on.  Gotta make some jump shots.

I jinxed the team.....after my post, USC shoots 0 for 5 with 3 turnovers and 0 points in the final 4 minutes. Thankfully UK also had no FGs in last 2:35 of the half, and only scored 4 more points. So UK leads at the halftime 36-28....

Opposing teams plan, defend Lawson and let us shoot 3s.  Also shoot 3s over us all game

I thought UKs length would bother us, and it has.   Hannibal is playing his worst game this season.   Lawson is awful.  So is Moss.   McCrary has scored a career high, but it does not matter now.   We're getting killed on the glass and our guards can't make shots.   Bad matchup for us.   We don't do well against teams with length.

If Lawson or Bryant think they will ever play in the NBA, they are dreaming.   They never will.  Maybe overseas somewhere, but never in the NBA.

I don't expect Frank will be fired.  However, I am to the point where it wouldn't bother me if he left.   I think his coaching this season has been terrible.   He insists on playing Minaya when he has options on his bench who are just as good if not better.  And some options that would give us more size, which we desperately need.   But Frank insists on playing Minaya major minutes.    Our guard play is so bad that we are not really going to have a chance against most good teams anyway.   Frank's recruiting mistakes are really evident this season.    When we play a team that is long, iike uk or miss st, everyone struggles.  We must have set a school record for air balls this season.   We had a good game at Florida and two good games vs UGA.  Other than that, its been pretty much a disaster.

Same.

The lost ticket revenue this year was like we had a very bad losing season.

I could see a substantial number of season-ticket holders not renewing for next year, either, based on how awful we have played the last half of the season.

I expect us to get flushed in our first SECT game next week, no matter who the opponent is.

Lawson 2-10

Moss 1-11

Hannibal 0-8

Woods 0-2

Total:  3-31 FG shooting from those 4 guys.  Our guards.   9.6%

I don't know if there is a team in the NCAA that we could have beaten today shooting like that.

I would say that right now, we are the worst team in the SEC.   And its not even close.

I agree with most of that, except that I think that losing Frank will set us back - he deserves another full season without covid.

Minaya does need to sit until he shows that he can hit a decent percentage of his threes. McCreary made a case to be the starting PF, which is basically what Minaya plays. The other player that should get minutes ahead of Minaya is Tre Anderson.

Startng five - Hannibal, Couisnard, Lawson, Bryant, McCreary. When we go big with Minott or Leveque, let McCreary play PF. Use Anderson to back up the wing positions, Seventh (assuming he is not out for the last game) can back up at Point,  Nine players are plenty. The M & M boys - Moss and Minaya - have earned spots deep on the bench.
I think what Frank deserves is up for debate.   But I think Tanner will give him next year.  But Tanner is a fool if he extends Frank's contract until Frank proves he can get a team in the NCAAT.    We only have one more game.  And we will lose it.   So, from my perspective, it really does not matter who plays for  us.

However, I would start Minott at center, McCreary at PF, Bryant at SF, Lawson at 2G, and Hannibal at PG.   I would sub at guard with Couisnard, if he's available.  I would only play those 3 guards.    I would sub for Bryant with Anderson.   I would sub for Minott with Leveque.   I would sub for McCreary with Minaya, but I would not allow Minaya to shoot outside of 10 ft..   I don' think Woods will return for the SECT.

The fans will start showing up again if we win.

It will be interesting tgo see what happens in the offseason. Will Lawson stay? Will Woods come back (his scholly will not count against the limit)? Who is leaving to make room for the new guys? Moss? Andeson? Minaya? Benson?

Frink, Leveque, Minott, and McCreary give us plenty of  inside muscle and they all have at least two more years of eligiblity. We need shooters/scorers
There aren't enough scholarships if everyone returns.    Neither Lawson nor Bryant are ready to go pro.   I have no idea who might transfer.   I know who I would like to transfer, but I don't know if they will.

Lawson and Bryant would be a great returning nucleus. Frank knows who is going - or else he would not have signed three, with an additional commit. Woods opens up one spot (even if he returns).

I was thinking Benson, Anderson and Moss as the three likeliest players to go, but I am starting to think that Minaya might need a change of venue. Of our four recruits, the one I like the best is Carlous Williams - who is the guy that has not signed yet. So we will need three to leave.
i agree that some guys have told Frank they are leaving and that's why he recruited 4 guys.   Woods and Lawson I think are two of the departing.   Not sure who the other two are.  I hope it is Minaya and Moss, but I don't know if we could be that lucky.

It isn't that we are playing the wrong offense, or the wrong defense.   The problem is that we have some guys who don't have the talent and skills to play basketball at the level we need them to.    Someone said its not the players you miss on in recruiting, its the guys you get who can't play.   That is our problem.   Frank has signed a bunch of guys who do not have the ability to play at a high level.  They can't make shots.  They can't dribble.  They can't pass.  They aren't big enough to rebound or score inside.  They are not good defenders.   It all boils down to the fact that we have a roster that is not talented enough to get us where we want to go.  Frank recruited these guys, so he has to take the blame for their inability.   So it isn't what Frank is telling them to do in games that is not working.   We simply do not have good enough players.   That means we need to get rid of some dead wood and replace them with guys who hopefully are better.

It is not just the guys that told Frank that they are leaving - it is also the guys that Frank wants to leave. If they are not playing and need to step down to a smaller school, Frank will tell them and help find a home. I am sure that he talked to some guys preseaseon and told them that if they did not step it up this year, they would need to look elsewhere.

I get your other point about missing on recruits, and Frank does tend to burn through a lot of players for that reason,  But here is my question....if we are getting the same looks as the other team, and the difference is that they make their shots and we don't make ours, does that mean that our guys can't play? Or just can't shoot?

And if those same players have shot well in the past - like Minaya as a Freshman and Couisnard last year - can't you also say it is just a shooting slump? One that cold be caused by, I don't know, missing a hell of a lot of playing and practice time?

I am not saying you are wrong, I am just saying that covd hurt us a lot more than most teams.
I would have bought the Covid argument a month ago.  Now?  No.

A shooting slump that lasts all season?  That doesn't sound very convincing.    A shooting slump that lasts 2-3 games I can buy, but not one that lasts for weeks.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Bryant go pro after this season.  And I wouldn't be surprised if he stays.

Since we have 4 recruits, Frank obviously expects some departures.  I wish i knew who.
