*** USC MBB (4-11/6-13) @ UK (7-9/8-15) Game Thread ***

I don't expect Frank will be fired.  However, I am to the point where it wouldn't bother me if he left.   I think his coaching this season has been terrible.   He insists on playing Minaya when he has options on his bench who are just as good if not better.  And some options that would give us more size, which we desperately need.   But Frank insists on playing Minaya major minutes.    Our guard play is so bad that we are not really going to have a chance against most good teams anyway.   Frank's recruiting mistakes are really evident this season.    When we play a team that is long, iike uk or miss st, everyone struggles.  We must have set a school record for air balls this season.   We had a good game at Florida and two good games vs UGA.  Other than that, its been pretty much a disaster.
Frank is friends with Minaya's father FWIW.

We could have a lot more Type A blood type players and coaches on the team than other teams.

That could result in soft practices, loosening the reigns on defense during games.

Frink going out for the season may have spooked the team in terms of strenuous work-outs and practices.

The team could have been sicker than we thought and Frank surely wouldn't tell the public during the season if that were the case.

I think it will come down to whether or not Frank still wants to coach the team, but I don't know.  The moon is cheese.

Frank had to deal with a lot personally this year, with catching covid twice. I think he still has the fire if he can get back to 100%. HIs first goal should be to drop the Covid 20 so he can get back to stylin' with the suits.

When you have to worry about staying alive and keeping your players healthy, playing games/coaching is secondary.
The problem is nobody had the 'rona the last couple of years, though.

The same player management issues from Frank during that time as well.

The best 5 guys we have have now on their best day couldn't come close to matching up with that F4 team.  That's asking too much but this team is far from a tournament team right now.  We struggle to score for large stretches of games and that happens on Frank's teams but we're consistently beat on the defensive end.  We have scored in the 70s-80s and lost where teams are putting 90 plus on us. They all need to be able to defend better than what we've seen in a while.

in the 16-17 season we finished 32nd in the nation in points scored against us for 65.2 per game average.  We're 331st this year averaging 79.3 against.

Why this team is a disappointment, in no particular order:

1.  Covid interrupted too much.

2.  Frink was lost for the season.

3.  Minaya and Couisnard shooting slumps, making them less effective than we needed them to be.

4.  Playing Seventh, Moss, Nelson.   Good guys, but not enough talent to help the team.

5.  Playing Minaya at PF.   He does not have the size to play there and lacks the speed and athleticism to offset his size.    Frank should have played someone bigger most of the time.

6.  Spotty, inconsistent PG play.   Seventh and Moss do not have the skills to play PG in the SEC.   Frank should have played Couisnard and Hannibal there all season.  If someone was out, then sub some with Woods.

7.  Losing breeds more losing.   Its hard to get and keep a winning mindset when you lose.
