USC held the first of  its football camps Saturday and the Gamecocks got a good look at LB Davonne Bowen (6-2 214) of Woodmont.  The defensive coaches must have liked what they saw because he picked up an offer giving him a total of 20.

“It’s truly a blessing and it’s really like a relief to finally get the offer,” Bowen said. “I’ve been looking and waiting for that USC offer to come in.  They’ve been showing lots of interest and have been recruiting me for some time now. The coaches were saying they love my skill set and my athleticism and that I have the gift and talent and work ethic to play all four linebacker positions.”

Bowen is still keeping options open at the moment but the opportunity given him by Will Muschamp and company may prove too strong to pass on.

“I’ve been a fan of Muschamp’s ever since he was at Florida,” he said.  “I’ve always been a fan of the way he coaches and especially him being not only the head coach but a more defensive coach is something I really have a huge interest in.  And  I really like TRob’s (Travaris Robinson) personality.  He’s real energetic and hype and likes to interact and have fun with that players.   Those are the kinds things I’d definitely love playing under.   The facilities are top notch.  Everything about them just looks fantastic.”

Bowen, who had 14 sacks and 61.5 tackles as a junior, also has offers from Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Marshall, Towson, Appalachian State, Georgia Southern, Army, Furman, Charleston Southern, Coastal Carolina, Nevada and others.  But the one from USC really stands out to him now.

“It really puts USC in my top choices,” he said.  “I’ve always loved USC and I have really been waiting on the offer.   I plan on visiting Missouri, Maryland, Wake Forest, Louisville and some others schools may be added to the list but I will definitely be back to USC.  I really don’t have a commit date.   I’m just gonna decide to up and commit.”

Other offers dished out Saturday by the Gamecocks included ones to 2018 LB Dax Hollifield (6-1 220) of Shelby, NC, 2019 WR Jacoby Pinckney (6-3 192) of Dorman and 2018 DB Steven Gilmore Jr. (5-10 160) of South Pointe, brother of former Gamecock star Stephon Gilmore

Also Saturday…

WR Nico Collins of Pinson, AL released a top seven, in no order,  of Clemson, Georgia, Michigan, Alabama, Florida State, LSU and Ole Miss.

OL Andrew Thomas of Atlanta listed a top three with Georgia ahead of Clemson and Notre Dame.

USC and Clemson target DE MJ Webb of Madison, GA was at Auburn Saturday after visiting Tennessee Friday.
