USC opens bowl practice with a short workout (AUDIO)
USC opened bowl practice Saturday morning with a short workout. A lot of players were missing because of final exams so Steve Spurrier cut things off after just over an hour. He said the team will have a more in depth practice tomorrow with all of the attention turning to Michigan.
“Michigan is a big, strong team with good team speed,” noted the Head Ball Coach. “At times they’ve been very good on defense. At times they’ve struggled a bit on offense, at other times they’ve looked very good on offense. They’re 8-4, but have lost to some good teams.”

Connor Shaw didn’t practice Saturday, but he is expected to participate in Sunday’s workout. Spurrier reiterated Shaw will start at quarterback if he’s healthy, but Dylan Thompson is going to play as well. In fact, Spurrier said Thompson will see action early in the game; “The plan is to start Connor and get Dylan in somewhere in the first half or first quarter maybe and get both of them ready to play and see how it goes.”
Spurrier mentioned yesterday to non-starters won’t be participating in the bowl game, and now we know who they are: Offensive lineman Kyle Harris is transferring and senior wide receiver D.L. Moore’s career is over for a violation of team rules. Spurrier said he didn’t think they would have any more attrition before the bowl game.
