USC’s plan to add more pass rushers to the 2015 recruiting class apparently includes bringing in former Shrine Bowl 3 star DE Devante Covington (6-3 230) of Georgia Military JC. According to GamecockCentral, the Gamecocks have returned Covington’s name to their commitment list for the 2015 class.

Last May Georgia Military coach Bert Williams said the Gamecocks were still in touch with Covington. “Everything is on board at this point still,” Williams said then. “He’s happy with South Carolina. Several others have exhibited interest but he’s not interested. It’s a good likelihood he will resign barring any change.”

However, as the recruiting season has played out, there has not been much talk about the Gamecocks in resigning Covington who first signed with them in 2013 out of Richmond County High School in Rockingham, NC.

Their position on him now has apparently changed and they reportedly will resign him in February with hopes he can enroll this summer. Williams said in May that Covington was making the necessary progress to be able to graduate in the summer.

This season Covington had 39 tackles with 14 tackles for loss and 5 sacks. His commitment gives the Gamecocks 28for the 2015 class including 5 defensive ends.
