WR Dre Massey 5'11' 190lbs of Holmes JC, MS is a major USC target and the Gamecocks are in regular contact with him.  Massey is watching the coaching search at USC with a lot of interest and his recruiting plans have been impacted by that. He originally was going to visit USC this weekend for the Florida game but that’s been pushed back to December 4th. And for good reason according to Massey who talked with recruiter Steve Spurrier Jr. earlier this week.

“Basically just getting everything situation with the trip and making sure everything was good and everything as a go,” Massey said.  “The new coach is supposed to be coming in around the time I visit or at least they’ll know who it’s going to be.  It will be good for me to go ahead and meet him before I make my decision and at least know what’s going on with the program.”

Massey has taken an official visit to Cincinnati.  He’s not going anywhere this weekend but will visit Oklahoma November 21st and Florida November 28th.  He said Thursday night he’s down to the Gators, Gamecocks and Sooners in that order.

Massey, who is from Mauldin, said his mom will come in to Columbia for his official visit.  And he has some specific things he wants to see on each of his trips.

“A good atmosphere and basically their plan for me,” he said.  “How they plan on using me and how much playing time and is it a good fit.”  Massey said everyone is recruiting him as a slot receiver though there’s some talk of using him in the backfield as well.

Massey said Florida called his mother Wednesday night.  In fact, he said the Gators call her a good bit and is probably the one recruiting him the hardest right now.

This season at Holmes Massey was named first team all region and all state.  He had 21 catches for 548 yards and six touchdowns and rushed for 452 yards and three scores.

He will sign during the mid-year transfer signing period which begins December 16th.
