The recruiting of PG Willie Moore of Cincinnati took a strange turn Monday. While on Virginia Tech's campus for an official visit Monday, Moore learned that Hokies coach Seth Greenberg had been fired. He ended that visit and left Blacksburg to return to Cincinnati. Moore had indicated before the visit he might commit to Virginia Tech. Now, he will turn his attention to USC. Moore and the Gamecocks are working on an official visit for this week. If all the paper work can be taken care of in time, he could be in Columbia by Wednesday. USC is very interested in Moore. Gamecock assistant Matt Figger scouted all five of his games at an AAU tournament in Pittsburgh over the weekend. Oregon offered Moore Monday and the Ducks could be a factor. One of their assistants used to be an assistant at Cincinnati and obviously has ties to that city's basketball community. Moore originally committed to and signed with Duquesne in November. He got his release after a coaching change there.

Two team race developing for Moore

6-3 PG Willie Moore of Cincinnati is down to USC and Oregon and will make a decision after visiting both schools according to his mentor Corey Albertson. "It's 50-50," Albertson said. Moore was at Virginia Tech for an official visit Monday when Hokies coach Seth Greenberg was fired. That visit ended quickly and he returned home. Wednesday Moore will visit USC and Monday he will go to Oregon. About a week after the Oregon visit Albertson said he would have a decision. Last season Moore averaged 18 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists per game.

Gamecocks now out front for Moore after visit

USC is now the front runner for 6-3 PG Willie Moore of Cincinnati following his official visit which wrapped up Friday morning. “I really like South Carolina,” Moore said. “I really, really like them. They are the favorite. The fans, they can’t wait till the season starts. And I loved the coaches. They are fun to be around. They are funny people. They said they need a point guard like me who can come in and help them.” Moore will visit Oregon next Wednesday thru Friday. He said a few days after that he will be ready to render a decision. Working in the Ducks’ favor is the presence of a good friend of Moore’s who is on the football team, and his relationship with one of the assistant coaches who use to be an assistant at Cincinnati. Moore chooses Ducks over Gamecocks

6-3 point guard Willie Moore of Cincinnati committed to Oregon Friday morning while on his official visit with the Ducks. Moore chose Oregon over USC. "It came as a bit of a surprise," Moore's AAU coach Corey Albertson said. "They sent him home with scholarship papers and his mother will sign them over the weekend." Moore will not sign a letter of intent since he had previously signed one with Duquesne in November. Two factors worked in Oregon's favor. A Ducks' assistant coach previously coach at Cincinnati and knew Moore well, and Moore has a close friend on the Oregon football team.
