My opinion...this is a must win series.


SEC Eastern Division leaders meet this weekend at Carolina Stadium as South Carolina (27-5, 7-5 SEC) hosts Florida (21-12, 7-5 SEC) for a three-game series. First pitch for the opener on Friday is 7 p.m. with Saturday's contest at 4 p.m. and Sunday's series finale scheduled for 1:30 p.m. All three games can be heard on the Gamecock IMG Network including flagship station, 107.5 FM, "The Game," with Andy Demetra and Tommy Moody on the call.

Saturday's game is sold out with limited standing room only tickets available for Friday and Sunday.

South Carolina - Jordan Montgomery (Jr. LHP) 4-2, 3.83 ERA, 44.2 IP, 17 BB, 47 SO
Florida - Logan Shore (Fr. RHP) 3-1, 1.15 ERA, 47.0 IP, 10 BB, 31 SO

The Joey Pankake leadoff experiment, designed to let him see more fastballs, enters Game 2. He was 1-5 on Tues., but 1 hit came in 1st

TOP 1 - Jordan Montgomery to the mound. Been pitching really well of late. Turgeon hits a chopper to short. Mooney charges and fields cleanly. Strong throw to first. A little wide of Martin, who stretches and makes the play. One down. Martin, probably the person on the team I like the most as a player, hits a single through the left side. Then swipes second base on Montgomery's first pitch. Got an excellent jump. He must have really been scouting Montgomery's move because it usually takes at least a couple of pitches for a base runner to figure out a pitcher. Greiner made the play really close. Bader goes down on strikes bringing up Gushue, one of the few guys who have been around a while. He drops the barrel of the bat on a fastball. Not a horrible pitch. Down in the zone, maybe a little too much of the plate. Line drive single to left center. Monty comes back and gets Mattson on strikes though to end the inning. Florida leads 1-0

 
BOTTOM 1 - Three up, three down for the Gamecocks. Shore comes out throwing 90-92, which probably means 91-93 on the USC gun. Little slow here. Pankake hits a bullet but it's right at the third baseman. Gators had the shift on for him, which is the first time I've seen that. Mooney hits a chopper to third base. Sternagel makes another play. Greiner's bouncer back up the middle goes for a 4-3 to end the inning. Eight pitches that inning, I believe. Florida leads 1-0.

TOP 2 - Shafter goes down on strikes. Montgomery has three of those already. Alonso shoots a single to right field. Sweet change from Monty to Tobias gets him on strikes. Fly ball to right field. Bright makes a diving catch on it. Took a bad route but made up for it. Florida leads 1-0.
