Virginia running back AJ Turner commits to USC Thursday

4 star RB AJ Turner 5'11" 187lbs of Centreville, VA Thursday night announced a commitment to USC from The Opening in Beaverton, OR. Turner had narrowed his list to a final five of the Gamecocks, Clemson, Virginia, Ohio State and Michigan State.

Clifton (Va.) Centreville four-star running back AJ Turner committed to South Carolina moments ago at The Opening, a gathering of many of the nation’s best prospects at Nike’s world headquarters in Oregon. He chose the Gamecocks over fellow finalists Michigan State and Virginia. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound Turner has been a strong Gamecock lean since at least late May and has been saying the right things to the South Carolina coaching staff since that time.

Defensive line coach Deke Adams was Turner’s primary recruiter of record, and running backs coach Everette Sands has also been involved since he landed his Gamecock offer. Turner is a versatile back who can be effective as a runner and as a receiver out of the backfield. On film he shows excellent balance and vision and has a great feel for the game. While some school offered him early as an athlete, each of his finalists wanted him as a running back.

South Carolina will take one more running back in addition to Turner in their class of 2015. Turner ranks as the No. 27 running back
