WATCH: Coach Beamers National Signing Day News Conference With Quotes & More

Dec. 15, 2021

Coach Shane Beamer tells story on how Rattler came to South Carolina, Stogner's dad suggested he call the QB, Rattler never visited in person, Stogner helped convince him to come based off his visit. (ARTICLE)

Quotes:

Beamer: The subject of NIL came up more down the stretch with prospects and their families, what can you provide for me?  His answer was the program can't provide any of that, but there are plenty of opportunities in the community. Said NIL is the name of the game.

Beamer: Number of spots remaining for the 2022 class remains in flux because of possibility of players leaving, they will continue to look at Portal and others they've been recruiting who did not sign.

Beamer: Defensive front was a position they needed to address and he feels like they did that in this class.

Beamer: Rattler wanted to get into an offensive system that's more like an NFL team with terminology but simple enough to learn in the spring, and that attracted him to Satterfield's offense.
My takeaways:

  • We'll be good on defense next year.
  • Some players will care about the NIL stuff; the good ones who don't and want a degree that will stay with a program in the long run may have just as much, and possibly more value, to a head coach than the selfish ones who only care about what's in it for them more than the team.
  • The uncertainty around Satt's tenure here after the bowl game needs to be resolved one way or the other.  Some have said that OU's struggles this season may have been related to Riley's desire for greener pastures that caused him to lose focus.
